Evening all, This is a really tough post to write but following my post the other day I think the best course of action is to shut down Sync before the new API changes go live.

The dominos are really falling quick. Apollo, RIF, and Sync all in the last few hours. That spez AMA tomorrow is gonna be spicy

What caused them to announce the closures so close together?

I would think it is partly the hard deadline of api access being changed mixed with seeing other apps already announcing closing. I would think it is just a, "Well, will have to do it sometime and this is as good of a time as any."

Per speculation on my part though.

@mrcory sounds in the right ballpark imo.

I think them declaring this early also does a couple other things:

  • people seeing Apollo shutting down will have started messaging the devs of their own apps, so they're making announcements to promptly address them
  • it will galvanise users around the upcoming blackout protest and potentially increase the number of participating users/subs
