Does it even matter any more? Tooth paste tubes used to be made of metal so if you squeezed from the bottom they would hold their shape and you could roll them up as you used them.
Now they're all made of plastic and as soon as you put them down they expand to their original shape and the tooth paste flows back into the empty areas. The world is just going to absolute shite! :)
Like 95% of the reason that I buy the brand I do is because it still comes in the old foil tubes that I can push out from the bottom and roll up. It's probably confirmation bias but I feel like I waste less toothpaste that way.
The other 5% is because my dentist told me to use that specific brand.
