  • Sweet & Sour Pork

  • Orange/Lemon chicken (depending on the place and what they have)

  • Chow mein

  • Fried rice

  • Egg rolls

  • Egg drop soup

At the place I go to most often, I can get all of that for about $8 and it's enough for two meals.

$8? That's about £6. Lucky to find a Chinese in my area where the chow mein is below £7. Maybe it's just my area being expensive but that's really cheap.

Just checked a local chippie and chow mein would be £8 with fancy ones running to £8.40. That feels like a lot but prices have jumped up recently. I checked on Just Eat and the cheapest I could find was £7.60.

I suppose we now know why no-one ever cooks on American sitcoms.

I should point out that this is not really the norm. It's just this one place, and the place is a bit of a hole in the wall and does not have table service. But it's also not much of a secret because it's always packed.
