After watching today's footage from the latest university student to get disappeared, I have been trying to figure out what we should be doing to stop these abductions. I'm curious to hear what people think about this idea:

If you witness what appears to be ICE apprehending someone:

  1. ask them to identify themselves and show some kind of ID that shows their agency affiliation and ask where they're taking the person; take a picture of their ID
  2. if they refuse to prove their legitimacy, call 911 and tell the dispatcher that someone is being abducted
  3. when the police arrive, ask them to verify that the abductors are legit and ask them to find out where the person is being taken

It seems like, since we are powerless as individual citizens to interfere directly in an arrest (without being shot or at least arrested ourselves) the next best thing is to get the local authorities involved so they can (hopefully) improve accountability. At the least, it might improve visability for the local authorities about what is happening in their communities.

Thoughts?

They may not be able to arrest or deport us all, but that won’t stop them from trying :(
