We've tried dollar coins a couple times.

Yeah, no idea on the pros and cons of dollar coins, just that they'll never take off while there are still bills circulating.

My guess would be a knee jerk response like the move away from incandescent bulbs.

I barely even use cash at this point so I'm not sure what the actual implications would be.

Aren't dollar coins used in the US? Because I've used them in dollarized economies (e.g. Ecuador) and I assumed they were fairly standard everywhere.

We have them but they're somewhat uncommon. I needed three for a project recently and had to go well out of my way to find them
