Fediverse vs Disinformation
Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.
Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.
What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.
By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

So to everyone calling me a troll: what is trolling about my behavior?
I post news articles from major news orgs. Some of which happen to be pro-conservative. That's not what trolling is.
I don't advocate violence. I don't advocate anything racist. I don't advocate anything radical. That's not what trolling is.
I fucking post news articles. That you don't have to read.
The conservative articles go to conservative communities. The socialist articles go to socialist communities. Most of my posts go to MY OWN COMMUNITIES! That's not what trolling is.
Lemmy IS NOT a liberal-only online forum.
You all being mad and calling me a "troll" just because you don't like articles about trump is hilarious to me. I have asked you all several times to just block the conservative communities I post in, and then you won't see any of them.
Being mad just because I didn't vote for Harris is a ridiculous reason to call me a troll. I didn't vote for Trump either.
Ya'll need to calm down and not take Lemmy so seriously! lol
You are allowed to create your own liberal communities. I am allowed to create my own conservative communities.
Even though I'm not conservative, I feel they have a right to partake in Lemmy.
And I'll help them do that. Cool?
Thanks, friends!
Sure, if the instance the comms are on allows it, they have that right. Of course, looking at the member numbers, doesn't look like any of them are taking you up on the offer for a safe place. I've heard the term echo chamber before, but you don't even have enough people for that.
So then it's a win for you, right? I mean, I do my own thing and no one shows up. So cool
So instead of trying to get me banned, shouldn't you just be laughing that no one cares about me? No reason to start entire threads about me, since no one cares, right?
No reason to be scared of little ole me. The guy no one shows up for.
And if there is a place for conservatives, and no one shows up, then win-win for you. Because Lemmy's can say "Hey we don't discriminate, there are places for conservatives!" And since no one goes there, then you don't have to worry about it.
So no reason to be upset with me, right?
I just talking into the void to an audience of one. Right?
Shouldn't the tone of this thread be, "hahaha Universal Monk is nothing! Look, no one is listening to him! How pathetic!" instead of "He's dangerous, we gotta get rid of him. He's ruining Lemmy!"
Right?
I'm not trying to get you banned. I don't give a shit about you, other than finding a momentary bit of amusement at how sad and lonely the whole thing looks.
Yeah, he said that to me too. I don't care about him being banned, although making a bunch of aliases is bullshit. ESPECIALLY if they are names that already belong to people. Double bullshit there.
Lemmy is unintentionally Lemmy. It just is itself. Creating a "Conservative Land" like some Disney park, intentionally, and trying to "if I build it they will come" it into existence?
That's just odd behavior. Anyone can do it if they like. And if they aren't offensive I daresay they won't be defederated. But the aliases bother me, and I think defederation may come because of that. Certainly using SatansMaggotyCumFart (man, I hate that that's now going to be a spelling suggestion).
You can long press a spelling suggestion to delete it
And I appreciate you saying that. Read the whole thread. You'll find yourself in the minority when it comes to your banning opinion.
Now as for sad and lonely, then again, I'd argue that there is nothing to fear by having me be here.
Also for context, I'm retired early, I'm fit and healthy with a gf and a social life that is more active than I would prefer. There is nothing sad or lonely about my life.
I like the idea of Lemmy. I like posting on Lemmy. And I think all points of view (as long as legal) should be allowed.
I don't take any of this shit seriously though. lmao I even have a selfie on my slrpnk instance of my name in a workout community I started.
The other people in this thread need to take shit less seriously though. lol
Yeah, I'm late to the party, but I'm probably just gonna block and move on. You seem like a walking ball of contradiction, and trying to figure out your actual views is probably what is pissing some folks off.
I don't think you should be banned, but I don't need to interact with someone helping to spread pro-trump messaging.
Removed image because it's not actually the one I'm fishing for in my ridiculously unorganized folder of quips.
I mean, I think they should be banned because they're clearly just spreading misinformation and division. "I'm not a conservative, I'm totally a socialist! I just build conservative communities and support conservative ideas because I want to support them! Not because I agree with them!"
"It's not trolling! I'm just sharing articles for funsies! I'm a retired socialist and do it in my free time! I just share doomer socialist content with socialists, and inflammatory conservative content with conservatives! That's a totally normal and fun thing to do for a lifelong socialist!"
"Don't take lemmy so seriously guys, its not like political discussion influences political action and those actions have direct consequences on people's lives! Politics can be fun!"
Fuck off, troll.
Yeah, I ended up going with a block anyhow. They may be legit carrying separate, distinct views in their head, but it was already feeling a little self contradictory by the time we were a couple layers deeper.
Have to defer to Occam's razor, not Hanlon's, unfortunately. The simplest answer is more often right when deciding between malice and stupidity, and this user's actions can most simply be explained as trolling.
Blocking and banning are the only reasonable responses to trolls who play these games with their words and intentions and who thrive on being the nice, innocent victim in response to every challenge.
It would be the "I'm a socialist but nearly all my posts are pro-Trump" bit I think. The ball of contradictions.
But also, supporting someone who is setting up new ~~internment~~ , uh ~~deportation~~, no, concentration camps, among other actions that are kicking the legs out from under our nation and causing the deaths of innocents would be a decent reason to be pissed off about someone's political views.
I'll probably wait until I can find the right quip to post. The point of it is along the lines of "all views deserve equal consideration only if you don't actually look at the content of some of those views." Because you seem to think you're just playing fair, when what you are actually doing is supporting the up and coming dictatorial fascist regime.
And in reply to one of your other questions - all conservatives and republicans may not be fascist bigots, but it's also clearly not a problem for them that their elected representatives are. That's pretty much enough for me to know what I need to know about them.
Means it's full of people who are cool with us heading that way. Have some quips, though still not the one I was looking for.
Do you roll out the red carpet for them and explicitly say you are helping them?
Nope, not cool.
Like I said, walking contradictions. It's tiring.
