He was playing an antagonist character (way toned down but think of his character in Django) so they might have agreed with his take.

Sam kept urging Kendrick not to make a scene, not to make a fuss, just to stay nice and quiet. Clearly meant to be a baddie but likely lost on a lot of viewers.

Incidentally, I’ve heard the Fox News crowd is currently butthurt about Kendrick’s backup crew/dancers not being “diverse” enough because they wanted more white people in it. So yeah, I don’t think they got it. To be fair though, it’s hard to get people to read between the lines when they have a 3rd-grade reading level.
