I try to avoid eating palm oil where I can because I don't want to be complicit in extinction but it's basically impossible to avoid.
To that end it's not at all society that is addicted. That's industry PR spin for dodging responsibility by making it seem like its consumers who have a choice. We do not.
This is the same shit as the plastic problem. Coke used to use glass bottles but switched to plastic because it costs less, and everyone else does this too. Yet the conversation is not about them choosing to be ethical, it's about how people don't recycle enough plastic.
