Just out of curiosity, what exactly would they even see? Destination sure but actual data? Probably not. There is almost no communication that is unencrypted, hence why all sites use https these days. Sure they can see it but without the proper certificate and handshake the data would be useless. If you use a VPN then they will only see all your data directed to that source. As long as people take the bare minimum steps they can protect themselves from being spied on. I don't even use the ISP's DNS servers either which is less data as well.
I think a bigger part is educating people on how the internet works which could help people be less paranoid.
