Trump vs the bar would be an interesting fight to watch. He'd be up against a lot of entrenched power and money that wouldn't want to cede an inch.
I don't know if this is an institution that could tell him to fuck off but it's a deeply entrenched one.
Why wouldn't they be able to tell him to fuck off? Trump has no authority whatsoever over the New York State Bar. They can and will simply ignore his tantrum.
Officially, yes. But he has tons of lunatic followers both in and out of government. I'm sure he could find a way to ratfuck his political enemies somehow. If he can't find a way to have his DOJ "investigate" and harass them constantly over frivolous shit, there's always a chance one of his nutball supporters could blow up a Tesla in front of a courthouse or something...
But also: Conviction aside, didn't we just read that he escaped any and all actual punishment for this anyway? We were told he would not face jail nor fines? So, it's just a bunch of meaningless hot air anyway. He has nothing to be mad about other than, as usual, being insane.
The horrifying thing is it's not certain that's what they would do. The guy never saw any consequences after his trial(s).
The bar doesn’t have a military, the DoJ, or a distressing quantity of far-right militias behind them. I anticipate things like this being taken in an extralegal direction. The lawyering profession as a whole, imo, will eventually bend the knee en masse. There will be holdouts, but they’ll be at best harassed and driven to the fringes of their own profession.
