Yeah, it’s a shame that the tanker is such a short part of the game. Once you get to the oil platform, it feels kinda empty and you just keep repeating the same few rooms over and over again.
I loved the snow base hidden in the arctic. Such a cool setting.
That's true, but there was also a lot of backtracking in MGS1.
I did like the cold, metallic atmosphere of MGS1 with beautiful dithered textures. Likewise, the cell-shaded, organic design of the Big Shell is so nice. Each Metal Gear game seems to have such a unique style.
I guess cats what u really liked about it the dark cold metallic atmosphere was really interesting. I didn’t care for the orange of the big shell.
Which was arguably the point. The ten-dollar term is "ludonarrative assonance." The blunt explanation is that MGS2 is a long-form middle finger to the player. It's not Hideaki Anno levels of dickish, but it is unmistakably Kojima looking you in the eyes and asking, "So you want another one, huh?"
It just sounds like an excuse for a somewhat poorly designed game.
None of these games lacked time, skill, budget, or thought. All of their jank is deliberate.
It served a purpose besides making you happy.
