It's an exaggeration of the expression "down bad" which means to be very attracted to someone.

I assume "down bad" originates from being "down" to do something. I.E.

"You want to get something to eat?"

"Yeah, I'm down."

Thanks, yeah that exchange you just gave as an example makes sense to me. The use of an adjective after it threw me. Hadn't noticed that before
