As stupid as this sounds, I have come to enjoy the "Train Sim World" series of games over the last few years. A bit relaxing, lots of details and there's often cheap humble bundles with tons of DLC - Most of which carries over from the previous games to the next (i.e. no need to repurchase).
EDIT: Gameplay is similar to Densha-De-Go in the sense that you are driving a train in both. But I guess TSW is less of a game, more of a simulation. On the other hand, it's more accessible because it is not only available in japanese.
