Okay let's be fair: how does that change that the people either voted for a would be dictator, or chose not to vote at all allowing him to win?

So you're saying that people should be bullied into accepting leaders they don't want and pretend that's democracy?

Did they vote? If they didn't vote that means they get what they get, and they shouldn't complain if they didn't care enough to do the absolute bear minimum to participate in democracy.
