what even IS the proper context?
I believe this is some crossover comic where Spider-Man and Superman face each other. The entire fight Superman was holding back. At the end of the fight he realizes Spider-Man is actually a good guy, so he decides to stop the fight by standing still taking punches from him until he gives up. Long time ago I read it.
Just some lazy writing to accommodate that Superman is too OP for this kind of crossover.
Wait... There are crossovers between DC and Marvel? I didn't know about that.
I think there have been a few, yeah.
