I don't think I have owned that many different cookware pieces in my entire life

I know someone who had like 20 or 30 different gadgets and doohickies in the kitchen. It was borderline hoarding.

Gadgets are almost always a gimmick. There's a reason why professional kitchens aren't filled with gadgets. Learning some knife skills replaces most of the available gadgets, and it's quicker and cleaner too.
