So he's 29 and this happened slightly over ten years ago. It's possible that he could have been 18yo at the time and talking to a 17yo which would be pretty normal. But I don't think he'd lose his job for that. The church would be defending him by pointing out that that's a common thing for high school seniors to have one 18 and one 17 as they both become adults. Not happening here, so I think it's safe to say this was further out of bounds. The church said what they learned was shocking. What I just described is not shocking.

Age of consent in Michigan is 16. Even if he was 18, sex with a 15 year old is not ok.
A significant number of my female high school friends were seduced by college student aged men at that age and it really fucked them up psychologically. Some of them for years.
I remember taking one of my friends to get a pregnancy test because she was getting screwed by a fucking substitute teacher who was also a grad student (it was a college town) and he never got found out.
Yup. It seems like most women I know well lost their virginity to older men. It wasn't always predatory but it happened often enough to really give pause.
I think you can argue that it's always predatory even if the girl didn't realize it at the time.
