Are sims accurate enough that with a wheel, pedals, and a shifter that I could reach someone how to drive a manual transmission? Obviously we'd finish up in a real car, in the real world, but I was thinking that maybe they'd learn better without the stress of real world consequences, and maybe we'd end up on the other side of training with a lot less transmission damage.

I think the only real way to learn manual is to get out there and do it. There's a some tactile things like the spot in the pedal that engages and the risk of breaking things actually gives you the opportunity to show them why we don't do this or that.

Yeah I guess you're right. Being able to actually feel the gears engaging and the acceleration of the car is not something you can experience in a game.
