The case is the first in U.S. history in which an elected official is accused of murdering an American journalist.

So there are known cases in the U.S. of elected officials murdering non-American journalists?

I’m assuming the phrasing restricts it to cases that were in U.S. jurisdiction and that would be legally considered murder.
