Three or four times, sure, sounds like a blast when you're young and rich and famous. But as the age difference starts to show and you're still planted on that exact same carrousel, the same identical cycle over and over again, now you can start to sense a certain... joylessness in the whole thing, something compulsive and stagnant.

While I'm not comparing this to a certain Nabokov character - the age ranges are certainly different - they do share not being able to get past a pattern.

Just out of gossipy curiosity, I wonder how others who move in the same or parallel jet-setting circles as DiCaprio, interact with him, regard him, talk about him. That includes actresses and models in their thirties and forties. They have got to be at least a little creeped out by the repeating cycle, the image of a man-child masked by hollow mirth and surface glamour of a never-ending "Pussy Posse" stance, while mingling at dinner parties in the Caribbean or south of France.

I have a lifelong friend who is very successful, who dates women in their early 20's, despite being in his mid-fourties. Most of us think it's lame. But he at least tries to build relationships with them. He's not the one who has ended the last few relationships. Anyways, I don't like it. I have very little in common with a 22 year old woman. Sure, I can talk to them at parties, and get along just fine, but I wouldn't want to build a life with one.

I suppose there are lots of people in relationships with people their own age who don't experience any sort of happiness whatsoever.

I'm not going to judge other adults finding some sort of happiness with each other. I'm sure they're each having a good time. Will it last forever? Well, what does?
