Hello, Protestant German here. I’m hearing a lot about the infamous Quran burnings in Sweden, and find it very strange. To me it’s fighting fire with fire, and as Muslims are very religious I can imagine it hurts them a lot.

Can someone help me understand how this makes sense?

Maybe I don’t have the full picture. Thank you!

It’s a way to highlight the opposition to the basic right of free speech. Many Swedes thinks the liberal humanist value of free speech is very important, but an increasing group of people think that a silly made up story with no evidence should be able to dictate the speech of others instead.
