1- Sometimes the file manager just won't open and I get the error "Could not register nemo as a remote: Timeout was reached" when running it through the command line

2- Steam doesn't work most of the time, games won't launch, downloads won't pause and I can't exit out of steam, however, I can still navigate around the app.

Has anyone else ran into these issues and how are they solved?

Can you share your "uname -a" and what filesystem did you install (ext4) ?

It sounds to me that your installation was not properly done and/or you have some permission problems.

Whatever it is a re-install would be the best solution.

I installed to ext4. uname -a is

Linux desktop 5.15.0-113-generic #123-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 10 08:16:17 UTC 2024 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

with my name removed from the desktop name

The other responses are really good, for steam before you try anything else, disable hardware acceleration. Might solve your steam problems.
