I read this a decade ago on reddit. It's one of the only conspiracy theories that I actually think isn't so crazy.

There is a great (2-part, I think) series by Oceanliner Designs on YouTube that disproves this theory quite conclusively

I posted it less because of the conspiracy theory itself and more because of what the person thought was conclusive evidence.
