My best guess is because everyone thinks the robot got destroyed and if they don’t think it exists anymore it’s the perfect place to hide it

Ooh, that's a good point. I forgot that the robot was there without the WG knowing. Which I think also explains why we haven't seen the Elders say anything about it either. Their reaction to the Giant is going to be interesting.
