While I'm still enjoying it, I'm starting to get worried that the creative aspect won't get any actual focus at all. So far, while art and music were the setting, they didn't actually focus on that.
This episode for example: the lyrics were written offscreen, music was composed offscreen, the mascot was created (mostly) offscreen and the same for the music video, arrangement, instrumentation, recording and mixing, because apparently they're all just amazing and don't struggle creatively and are skilled enough. All struggle comes from interpersonal relationships or 'not believing in yourself'. They've never worked with each other before, they barely even know each other, and it all just clicks after solving their personal problems.
That's something that always bothers me about many music and/or idol anime. Particularly idol anime. It's almost never actually about music or performing and the effort it takes to not only get good at your craft, but also working together. In many cases, it's a mere setting. And so far, I'm starting to get the same feeling here. Maybe it's because I'm a musician that this bothers me, but I hope they're going to do something with the actual creative side.
Did you watch "Pompo the Cinephile"? I think this is what you are looking for. I think it's hard to convey the struggle of making things good enough so the producers will greenlight the story.
I haven't, but this looks good!
