We literally have this meme about how we wish our left-wing party was replaced by Dannish left-wing party.

It goes like this:

"Duńska lewica jest antyimigrancka i dzięki temu wygrała 3 wybory z rzędu cały czas ciesząc się ogromną popularnością i poparciem"

Socialdemoktratiet isn’t really left wing anymore. It’s more somewhere around the center maybe leaning a big left, but very much so right in other instances. I do doubt that they’ll win the next election considering the last few years, but people tend to forget quite quickly so maybe I’m wrong.

Socialdemoktratiet isn’t really left wing anymore.

Before the 90s it was very much a leftist party

SF was always more left and so was the communist and Venstre Socialisterne.

That still places Socialdemokratiet on center left.

Yes, they were far left. But Socialdemokratiet was still left. And if we go back to the beginning of the party they had their far shair of far leftists as well. This was before SF was even a thing.

They were talking about genuine socialism in those days.

Yeah, true. Even as far as the 60s they were talking about moving onto socialism.

If they win next election, I will no longer identify as a dane. And I won’t trust any other dane. And I will move to another country.

They will win again. Im not a fan, but the middle almost always wins, and they taken many of the right wing politics in. They are the biggest party. They will stay in power, and I think it will take a while to push them out with the other parties being so small/weak

Socialdemokratiet isnt the middle anymore tho, they are very fucking clearly right wing - and they are suffering for it. Many of the old Socialdemokrats of the past must be spinning in their graves hearing Mette F. BS and seeing the how the government is being run now.

I hate Socialdemokratiet. I hate Venstre and Moderaterne even more.

how can you just decide they arent "really left wing anymore?" like because you dont like their politics?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

blolfighter at 2024-03-24 16:45:23+00:00 ID: kwcyggp

Because their policies are centrist rather than left-wing.

Left wing isn’t exactly known for tax cuts, anti immigration policies and many more things. It’s pretty clear that their policies have changed over the past 20+ years.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

manfredmannclan at 2024-03-24 17:33:11+00:00 ID: kwd6kge

They did raise taxes about 58 times the last couple of years, so i think they are good for making one cut.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

imSpejderMan at 2024-03-24 17:39:00+00:00 ID: kwd7knn

Let me rephrase: tax cuts for the upper/upper middle class. Granted it’s tax cuts decided together with the right wing, but still part of their policy.

Also it’s just an example of what makes them less leftist than they were before. There’s many more reasons that I did not mention

Yeah, A really aren't left wing and have never been so in my life time. They've been center left and making moves towards the right from that for many years.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

KarnuRarnu at 2024-03-24 17:20:45+00:00 ID: kwd4g8b

The left/right wing refers to the placement around parliament. Of course a 1D projection of "all politics" is a gross simplification, but nevertheless the point is that it's all relative. S is left wing if they are left of the center, simple as that. So you can't say they aren't left wing because of their politics, you have to argue their relative position in politics to say they aren't left wing. And that hasn't really changed - everyone short of Ø and SF are still to the right of them.

royalexport54 at 2024-03-24 20:45:57+00:00 ID: kwe31oz

No, you really don't have to do that. You can absolutely define it in terms of their policy changes. There is nothing wrong in comparing their current politics to their historic stances and conclude whether they are or are moving more left or right.

Jakutsk at 2024-03-24 18:02:38+00:00 ID: kwdbn3o

anti immigration

That's a recent change for "left wing" parties in Europe. "Left wing" parties used to be more anti-immigrant, which is actually a more logical position. It's market liberals who want more immigration for obvious reasons.

Doedshunden at 2024-03-24 18:25:13+00:00 ID: kwdfgtl

Well socialist (left wing) ideology has traditionally been internationalist and anti-nationalistic, anti ethnocentric etc

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

Jakutsk at 2024-03-24 18:26:49+00:00 ID: kwdfqk4

Yes, but as far as I know, socialist/social-democratic parties across Europe still kept very tight border controls for most of their history, before opening up in the 80s.

icleanredditnice at 2024-03-24 18:38:38+00:00 ID: kwdhpyi

left wing are exactly anti immigration, see løndumping etc, left wing parties in the 70's in Denmark were heavily into tax cutes too
