You know when you think you got something and fully understand it

So you just dive in and start making changes. Maybe you are following a nice sonicwall guide that references a 2003 server haha well just a friendly reminder unless you got a backup your screwed haha

Always do backups before making a change that you can't undo

No backup record everything

I thought o I can enable ssl ldap for vpn users really easy come to find out when you adjust sonicwall ldap config it nukes all prior setting no big deal right except that their dam documentation is not on point and then you are wondering why the old settings don't work haha

Thank God a system admin had mysonicwall cloud backups enabled as I would have been screwed definitely buying that guy lunch tomorrow 😀

Now here is what I am going to do to train my self I am going to login to over 20 sonicwalls tomorrow and export all the configurations as well as setup my sonicwall accounts if not configured

Never stop learning and always learn from your mistakes!

Been browsing this forum recently and have to say I was thinking back to some recent mess ups that I recall from my org. Had a few myself but will keep those under wraps.

Question: What kind of royal or holy crap moments did you see in your org be it you or someone else?

Two mess ups I saw was one our system engineers made a typo when pushing an update to the dev core system. They ended up inputting the wrong IP address and knocking the entire production system offline less than half an hour from business closing on a week day.

Another I found was database admins were not enacting proper backups for YEARS and when an update went through that broke the prod database cluster, whole monitoring and dashboards got hosed. No way to revert back to a snapshot of the database. Situation got so bad 90% or the administration for the database and DBA systems got offloaded to a third party vendor. Heard an emergency meeting was held and they got grilled six ways to Sunday. Sys admins and system engineers tried to salvage the cluster but it was beyond fubar.

Any interesting stories out there? Curious to hear them

Edit: Definitely if you could provide context and possibly outcome or consequences of what happened they would be interesting to hear.

With more than 3,000 different activities (also known as operations) logged into the Microsoft 365 suite, knowing which are useful for your investigation can be daunting. These guides aim to make triaging and analyzing data in Microsoft 365 simpler. Many of these operations are data-based storytelling vehicles, helping Microsoft Incident Response to piece together an attack chain from beginning to end.

HI everyone,

Here's the scoop. We had an employee leave the company a while ago. As is our policy in our Microsoft 365 admin center , we blocked signing into their account and converted the account to a shared mailbox so that their managers can monitor their emails. This employee came back into a new role, the CEO of the company asked if I could add her to another shared mailbox but when I try and add them as a member, their name doesn't come up in the list of users.

  1. Is that because their mailbox is shared?
  2. Can I safely delete the shared mailbox without affecting the users previous emails?
  3. Barring that, can I convert it back to not being a shared mailbox somehow?

TIA!

Need to rant for a moment....

Had a user report repeated account lockouts. Cool. Checked my report, and it shows the server causing the lockout. Directed the user to the SME for that service for further help.

This was a week or more ago.

SME for that service finally asks for help. He shows me the log on the server with the time/date stamp of the failed logon(s). Event happens every five minutes like clockwork.

Literally, all I did was look at the event log timestamp and then the IIS logs for that time to see the source IP and the user agent string. The SME says, oh yeah!

I mean... is this some esoteric skill? Reading logs? Help me understand.

Need resume review and feedback. I am trying to apply for a jr. sys admin position.

Here is the link to my blog if you would like to review that also (still a work in progress).

Thank you in advance for any feedback!

Looking to replace the head unit for our 3x2 video wall, which is a completely consumer-level rackmount Windows 7 PC from a bottom-bid vendor that no longer exists. Want to get in a replacement before this thing goes tits up.

Our needs are pretty simple... six HDMI runs to the video wall, and a single Windows desktop across the whole thing. However when I inquired with our Dell rep I clearly wasn't asking for the right thing as we got back a quote for a a 2U server with a bunch of standard video cards and no management or integration software to tie them all together.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Hey guys so few days ago we decided to migrate our server to AWS using Lightsail and setup WHM. All worked like a charm except that our emails cannot send receive anything. We have tried to contact AWS if possible to remove the restriction to port 25. Unfortunately we got no success. What are our options to have our websites be able to send receive emails and also we want to add them in Outlook etc. any help much appreciated.

Hi all,

As title suggests, I'd like to move away from WhatsUp Gold as my pricing requirements have changed and I want to look at another option. All I want is a network analyser and services monitor for my data centre which has the capability to send notifications or emails when services, devices or literally anything that's detectable changes (using mostly SNMP currently)

Does anyone have a preferred infrastructure monitoring platform? (don't need anything for laptop/mobile fleet as that's covered by Pulseway)

Much appreciated

Curious if anyone here uses Slack as the primary means of communication in a Microsoft-based environment.

Any reasons you use it over Teams?

Do you find it more manageable, scalable, easy to use, bugs, features, etc.

Any information is helpful, thanks!

I've been looking for a simple-to-use ticketing solution for the company and I stumbled upon Spiceworks. They claim to be absolutely free of charge but I'm suspicious - there are no free meals in Ba Sing Se.

So, thoughts? Should I at least give it a go? Or it's not worth the time?

I have about 20 devices and Google update Service has stopped running on them all, they have showed up as stopped running in my Nagios.

We are looking at GoogleUpdater Internal Service 122.0.6

GoogleUpdater Service 122.0.6

These are set to automatic however when looking online i find that this doesn't need to be there anymore. but i believe its talking an older service.

Anyone know if these need to be around, should they be running?

Patching seems to work well through ninja but I am wondering how others who use NinjaOne for patching are handling staged deployment / rings. Meaning, patch a pilot / testing group, then patch a slightly larger group days later, then deploy to the remaining once no issues reported.

I got contacted by a staffing agency that mostly works with government healthcare agencies. They told me to submit some onboarding documents. I got suspicious at first and called the agency, where they told me that NY State requires them to do a background check before submitting clients. I’m not sure if that’s true, nor did the listing demand any specific clearance.

The agency has a website and they did acknowledge applicants’ concerns over giving such data before interviews

Does anyone have a recommended workflow for transitioning from manually managed certs to ACME-managed certificates?

Couple things came to mind but I don't have a huge amount of experience in the area, as previous employment experiences involved a PKI service, their own trusted root certs, or publicly trusted intermediate certs to sign their own subdomain SSL certificates.

My though would be to somehow setup or schedule the first certificate request time in a config file, etc something like 2 weeks before the manually deployed ones expire?

This is my first time setting up a SAN from start to finish on my own and I have made some purchasing mistakes that have left me a couple of SFP cables short. My environment is as such

MSA 2062 iscsi LFF with expansion enclosure 4 - DL380 Gen10+ servers with SFP NIC cards

Each server will get their own volume on the same storage pool for data.

I have setup the iscsi connections on controller A to each server, but want to utilize controller B and have redundancy to my SAN. However, I am a couple SFP cables short to fully set up controller B. Am I able to setup controller B later and point to the existing volumes or does this need to be done upon first setup?

Our current wildcard certificate is expiring soon, and our Systems team shared the new wildcard certificate from GoDaddy. Using the old key, I generated the .pfx file using OpenSSL and used that PFX in Tomcat's server.xml and in application.properties in the middleware. I also tried matching the MD5 value for the key and .pfx. However, I am still getting the error "Error making the SSL socket in method SSLSocketFactory exception::". I have run out of options now.

The only difference that I see between the old (working) certificate and the new one is that in certmgr, the new certificate has a small key in the top left area whereas the old cert doesn't have any such key. May be there is something in that cert that needs to be unlocked. My knowledge in SSL or wildcard certs is very minimal, Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We're expanding our call center department (team of 25-30 operators). Our previous call system (Helpdesk) was an absolute shite show which we had to endure for almost a year. Currently navigating the enterprise call enter software landscape and wanted to make sure we don't repeat the same mistake.

What are the top cloud-based call center solutions worth checking out these days?

Hi there! We sell GPS trackers, and each tracker comes with a label from the manufacturer that has its serial number (SN). Sometimes, when we refurbish devices, the label can get worn out, and I want the option to reprint it.

I've been checking out Zebra printers, specifically the Zebra ZD421. I've never used Zebra, Brother, or any other Thermal Transfer Printers before. I need a Thermal Transfer printer to prevent the label from fading.

Ideally, I'd like software that allows me to create a template with placeholders. This way, when I need to print a label, I can just type in the serial number (ESN), new barcode, IMIE, and everything else around it stays the same. I've included link to two sample pictures of the trackers we use. The labels are about 1.625" x 2.75". If the size needs to be smaller, I can adjust things on the label.

Hi there,

I'm looking at buying an SSL from Comodo to sign my emails using S/MIME, I was looking at Basic which includes email validation, any thoughts about the entity? Shall I look at Digicert or Actalis? Everyone is talking about the Actalis free cert, does it seem trustworthy? Thank you!
