I linked to this website in a comment yesterday but I figured it could be helpful to basically everyone trying to decide what skincare product to buy. It's a wonderful website for translating long and confusing ingredient lists to easy to understand information. I use it all the time!

A while ago, I fell for an pretty aggressive sales pitch and bought an insanely expensive face exfoliator.

Unfortunately for me, the stuff actually works and my skin feels amazing.

Here is the ingredient list excluding everything I was able to immediately rule out (full list in spoiler tags at the end).

Propylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ascorbic acid(VC), Linalool

I've read that Carbomer can act as a mild exfoliator, but I'm not sure if that's the case here.

So if anyone has pointers for products I can try (which are available in Europe), I'd appreciate it!

!Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Gingo Biloba Leaf Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi (Job’s Tears) Seed Oil, Fragrance, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Dehydroacetic Acid, Oenothera Biennis ( Evening Primrose) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Polysorbate 20, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ascorbic acid(VC), Limonene, Linalool!<

CeraVe is a popular brand that is widely available so I figured this video could be of interest to the SkincareAddiction community! I've had mixed results with CeraVe products but the "Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser" (it's been available for a while in Europe but new to the US) she talks about is currently my favorite cleanser.

I've been enjoying Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport Ultra Light spf 50 for years as an ultra endurance athlete. However, I haven't experimented with too many brands. Sun Bum is nice but pricey since I go through so much sunscreen.

What are your favourites? Are there any Korean ones that come in big tubes that people have tried?

For some cases it's more obvious (e.g. dry skin tends to be flaky, oily might be, uh, shinier?), but when it's not to the extremes but also maybe not a mix, what's a decent rule of thumb to narrow it down?

Similar regarding sensitivity. A lot of skincare products market towards these conditions with the expectation that you'll know somehow, but it's not always so obvious, and a doctor's visit isn't always affordable (which is probably the best answer here, tbh, but let's suppose it's not a severe skin condition one's trying to identify).

I am new to skincare and am looking to introduce exfoliation into my oily skin routine. On Yesstyle, I'm mostly seeing exfoliating toners such as Cosrx AHA/BHA. Is that equivalent to an exfoliating cleanser that I could use once or twice a week? It seems odd to me that exfoliation removes dead skin and sebum, yet it would be left on the skin as a toner. Please help this noob to understand the difference.

Hey! I'm new to this and I accidentally commented instead of posting lol, I hope it's okay to post things like this, I have this type of acne and I just have no idea what kind it is and it's way more noticeable in person, and there isn't anything under these bumps like pimples or clogged pores normally do. Nothing seems to make them dissappear, any advice?

I have recently tried a water cream for the first time and I really like it. It's light but does really seem to hydrate my problematic skin. For me, the value is not feeling weighed down and oily, especially with this summer being so hot. But since water creams seem to be a new product (am I wrong on this?), I am wondering if this is a fad. Should I be stocking up on my new favorite cream, or is this here to stay?

I have been on tretinoin for a while, and now that I have increased the % at the recommendation of my derm I am flakey as hell. I am looking for a GENTLE physical exfoliant, preferably something that isn't a face wash type thing since my skin hates everything and breaks out even if the water changes 😒

I ordered the Hada Labo Gokujyun Cleansing Oil because now during summer I have to remove not only makeup but also SPF so I need something a bit more heavy duty. I've heard good things about this product so I'm excited to try it out!

Do you have any products you want to try or plan on trying next?

61

If I wait for my face to be completely dry before applying tretinoin (which is recommended practice afaik) my moisturizer (which is recommended to be applied on damp skin) will not be able to trap much moisture in. How do other tret users navigate this conundrum?

62

The remaining essence has my face pretty wet. Do I just leave it on? Also, is there a time of day that works best for anybody and if before bed, how do you keep your pillow dry? Thanks for helping a total noob.

But that’s why it’s so nice that there are some gems who actually have scientifically backed formulations, or even better: contribute to science by doing studies and creating new categories!

Hey there! It's currently pretty hot and I am struggling with my sunscreens literally melting off my face during the day (or at least it feels like it?). Does anyone have any good tips on sunscreens that are good in that regard?

TL;DR: it’s milk thistle tea. Specifically, “Stipulating that it needs to be the spiky heart of the milk thistle, the plant needs to be brewed for 20 minutes to ensure it is bitter.”

I'm gonna start of with one that most people are perhaps already familiar with, Lab Muffin Beauty Science. She's a breath of fresh air in an industry that's so filled with marketing bs. Or as she would describe her channel:

"I’m here to help you figure out what beauty products are worth buying, and which ones aren’t, using science!"

  • SPF - EVY Technology Daily Defence Face Mousse SPF50. Awesome sunscreen with almost no drawbacks. Unfortunately it can be difficult to find or a bit pricey depending on where you live.

  • Cleanser - CeraVe Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser. Cleanses well although you will probably need a pre-cleanse if you got a heavy SPF or makeup applied. Doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped. Easy to work onto the skin. No irritation. Reasonable priced considering how long a bottle lasts.

You read the title right.

I am applying tretinoin on my face every night so naturally it tends to become very dry. Without putting a moisturiser my skin will break.

The problem is, I naturally have a very very oily skin. And what happens is after the shower the skin is super dry, I put moisturiser, and then some hours pass and my natural oil comes through and my face starts to look disgusting, super shiny and greasy. This is a problem specially now that summer is upon us and sweat is added to the mixture (I live in Europe).

I'm currently using CeraVe products to moisturise my face, and I realize that maybe this is not the right call for my face. Do you guys know a good and cheap alternative I can use and that I'm able to get in Portugal?

Kind regards

Welcome!

I'm Kibou, and recently joined Lemmy @ sh.itjust.works after Reddit announced their API changes. SkincareAddiction was one of my favorite subreddits, so I wanted to create a similar community here.

Please message me if you are interested in becoming a mod for this community! I do not have moderating experience and would greatly appreciate the help. If any mods from the r/SkincareAddiction subreddit see this, please let me know as I'd be glad to hand this community over to you.

Base rules for the community right now are the same as the instance this community is located at + keep posts on-topic to skincare. Thanks and I look forward to seeing this community grow!
