Democracy in China (hexbear.net)
submitted 7 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I've heard people claim that China has a decent democratic system - one that's better at addressing the people's needs than the liberal democratic system we have in the west. Could someone provide me with resources on the way democracy works in China, China's political system, etc.?

also unrelated but it seems like all the links in the sidebar of this community are dead links

Fun fact: Unlike most US place names, San Francisco's Chinese name is not a simple transliteration. The name 旧金山 Jiùjīnshān ("Old Gold Mine," literally "Old Gold Mountain") dates back to the Gold Rush of the 19th century.

Although created by a foreigner living in China, the short film tells a history that even most Chinese people don't know much about. It reveals the behind-the-scenes stories prior to and after the birth of "The March of the Volunteers"and having it been sung to the entire world.

On the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture at Beijing Normal University ,China Center for International Communication Development(CCICD) ,Shanghai Vancouver Film School,School of Journalism and Communication Shanghai University,Yoywow Communications jointly launched this short documentary film. Ju Jun (Chinese: 橘郡; pinyin: Jú jùn; lit. 'Orange County') is a $60 million, 143-unit housing development situated about one hour north of Beijing, China, consisting entirely of expensive American-style townhouses and tract homes, decorated and furnished with American products. The Chinese developer Zhang Bo built the community to anticipate the 2008 Olympics to be held in Beijing.

Xiang Jingyu, born on this day in 1895, was one of the earliest female members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a pioneer of the women's movement of China. She was executed by Guomindang police on May 1st, 1928.

Xiang Jingyu was politically radicalized when she attended the Montargis Women's University in France. While studying there, Jingyu read many of Marx's works and became a communist.

In 1923, Xiang became editor of a weekly supplement to The Republican Daily, a Guomindang newspaper. The same year Xiang Jingyu was also elected as a Central Committee member and became the first secretary of the "Women's Movement Committee".

In 1924, Xiang led a strike involving about ten thousand female workers from silk factories. Then, she founded the "Committee of Women's Liberation" and trained many female cadres, who then became a force against feudalism and imperialism.

Xiang Jingyu was arrested in the French Concession Sandeli in Wuhan on March 20th, 1928. French officials turned her over to the Guomindang in April. On May 1st, 1928 she was executed.

The entire short article:

BEIJING -- With the approval of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, an English edition of a voluminous work on the Party history has been published both at home and abroad.

The book, titled "100 Years of the Communist Party of China," is divided into four volumes, respectively focusing on the CPC history in the new-democratic revolution, the socialist revolution and development, the reform, opening-up and socialist modernization, and the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The English edition was translated by the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee. Its original Chinese version was compiled by the institute and officially published in June 2022.

With Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guide, the book is a heavyweight with the most complete content about the Party history among the publications so far, according to the Central Compilation and Translation Press, the publisher of the book.

It is of great significance to help foreign readers learn about the CPC history, according to the publisher.

Some Western media outlets have recently hyped up the so-called "debt trap" theory once again, attempting to shift the blame for some developing countries’ debt problems onto China.

This is a blatant lie and another attempt to smear China.

In the past 10 years since the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was proposed, fruitful cooperation has been carried out in various fields, bringing tangible benefits to the people of participating countries.

Africa's Macro-Economic Performance and Outlook, a report released by the African Development Bank in January 2023, showed that the total debt service payments suspended by China under the G20's Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) have exceeded the total amount from G7 countries.

it doesnt take long to search the internet for many instances of debt forgiveness of structural loans from China. when has the IMF done this?

Research results released by the China Africa Research Initiative at Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. indicated that China contributed 63 percent of debt service suspensions.

thats quite a lot of debt suspension for a country that makes up less than 20% of the worlds GDP (adjusted).

In fact, the debt issues of developing countries are closely related to Western countries, especially the U.S.

World Bank statistics showed that multilateral financial institutions and commercial creditors account for nearly three-quarters of Africa's total external debt.

The U.S. is the largest shareholder of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), while American and European financial institutions serve as the dominant commercial creditors to African nations.

oof. and to make things worse, western loans that go toward extractive and manufacturing industries give way to horrible working conditions while superprofits are whisked away to the imperial core. otoh, loans from China go toward a more balanced development plan including schools, hospitals, and infrastructure as well as industries (where a significant smaller portion of the profits go to China, and only to pay back the loan)

It is evident to the international community who are the reliable partners of developing countries and who are the instigators of their financial issues.

damn right!
