A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/[email protected])

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

[email protected]

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

After seeing so many people feel so ostracized I wanted a community they could feel welcomed in. This is I hope going to be a positive male-orienated space. No alpha male Peterson bullshit, no sexism, no putting down people, this is a space for men to bring each other up and vent their issues they would otherwise be judged for to people who will understand and build them up rather than bring them down.

Hey there,

I have created a community on lemmy.world: mythosofolivier dedicated to Slavic, Ancient Egyptian, Celtic and Mesopotamian mythology; of course, any other pantheons or legends are more than welcome.

One can:

Share academic papers, lecture notes or personal essays Post your own artwork, fiction, or poems Comparative chats (Is Inanna more like Isis or perhaps Freya?) Questions, insights or just marvels at mythic oddities

Not a sect, just a space for myth-geeks.

Hi All,

I've moved Nerdcore from lemm.ee to lemmy.zip (via trusty copy and paste...) It would be awesome if you find your way over there. We got some nice nerdy lyrics on a variety of music genres.

Fun Fact: MC Frontalot coined the term “nerdcore” in the early 2000s :)

Cheers, peet

Do you have a confession that is just too unique. Post it here. Don't substitute this for therapy.

this is probably gonna be controversial, but i mean this for people who actually follow christ's teachings and not to be a cesspool of homophobia and transphobia.

With much thanks to PF's site-runner, as well as good advice from @[email protected], we've successfully moved!

NEW ADDRESS:
https://piefed.social/c/eurographicnovels
OLD ADDRESS:
https://lemm.ee/c/eurographicnovels

On the positive tip, we were able to preserve ~390 out of ~550 historical posts, so that's better than starting over. On a more sobering side, it looks like we're going to lose most of our (current) ~1,260 subscribers, and PieFed being a different instance, running different software, it's not clear to me if we're going to get the same exposure to "ALL" streams that we once enjoyed.

While it's true that I can invite individual members to join, it seems that (unlike PF), the Lemmy software doesn't allow me to see a list of subscribers, even as the founder and head mod. If anyone has any ideas on that, feel free to advise...

In any case, I hope you find something you might like at our (now smaller 😅) community / sub-lemmy.

With the impending closure of lemm.ee and both of the current mods being MIA I created a new foraging community [email protected]

Come join us and share your forages, or learn about ours.

Even Furiosa, my dog, is foraging.

Join us in bringing order out of KAOS.

[email protected]

KAOS = Knowledge As Our Saviour

KAOS is a way for your voice to be heard about ANY current event. We primarily use our website for this endeavour. However, we also are willing to have good conversations here, whether it's about AI, Government or international issues, We want your voice to be heard. There will be absolutely no Doxxing or CSAM allowed, regardless of location.

This is a sister account to r/KAOSnow on Reddit.

Help us get up and running, ask your questions or state your opinions, all we ask is that you are straight forward with what your opinion is about, otherwise than that, we censor nothing on our actual website, here on Lemmy I have to abide by the rules of the Instance I'm on.

ETA: Just because there is no censorship, within law, does not mean we do not have any moderation. Moderation does not mean censorship. Moderation is the process of making sure that rules are being followed as well as governmental laws.

I've just re-discovered ollama and it's come on a long way and has reduced the very difficult task of locally hosting your own LLM (and getting it running on a GPU) to simply installing a deb! It also works for Windows and Mac, so can help everyone.

I'd like to see Lemmy become useful for specific technical sub branches instead of trying to find the best existing community which can be subjective making information difficult to find, so I created [email protected] for everyone to discuss, ask questions, and help each other out with ollama!

So, please, join, subscribe and feel free to post, ask questions, post tips / projects, and help out where you can!

Thanks!

There's a lot of convoluted history behind what led to Project 2025, and that's likely on purpose.

This is a place to collect information about that history into one place, and hopefully get more awareness and discussion going about any odd or interesting information relating to the Heritage Foundation and it’s members or affiliate groups.

If you’ve got obscure information/articles written by or mentioning people like Paul Weyrich, Ed Feulner or other associates and organizations, such as the Heritage Foundation, Council for National Policy (CNP), State Policy Network, and many others, please drop them here.

A community dedicated to music that opposes war.

[email protected]

In light of recent escalations driving the world ever closer to another global war, music can help us oppose the war mongering and embrace the lessons that should have been learned from past wars.

Come over and let your rage against the war machine free or shed a tear at the pointless killing.

Rules:

  1. No bigotry of any kind
  2. No glorification of war (should be obvious)
  3. Songs need to have a message against war or politics surrounding war
  4. This is not a place for political discussions. If discussions escalate the comment section will be locked.

Hopefully, this community would make people more resistant to clickbait titles and make journalists who use clickbait titles, too embarrassed to clickbait readers.

Otherwise, I hope it brings fun and creativity to Lemmy.

Hey fellow metalheads, it's the founder of [email protected] here! Just letting people know I recently took over [email protected], and if you are a fan of heavy metal, it would be much appreciated if you shared your taste with us, or even just came along for the ride!

(NOTE: this is not a general metal community, it is aimed specifically at traditional heavy metal and nwobhm. Please post the former at a community such as [email protected]).

Cheers!
