It’s somehow been three months since @IoSapsai@lemm.ee and I agreed to take over moderation of this community, and we’ve not really had to do anything other than keep an eye out for reports. It’s not exactly been a taxing job, so firstly thank you stitchers for being so undramatic!

But that all happened while I was still super ill and to be honest most of November and December is like a weird fever dream. So I kind of did not do the one thing I said I’d do at the time: post some prospective community rules.

Basically what I’m thinking is we want to have something written down that we can point to just on the off-chance of misbehaviour, but at the same time we don’t need anything draconian or super specific while we’re so small.

Since I’ve already been through this process with !knitting@lemmy.world and there are even quite a lot of people here who are in there too, I think it makes sense to maybe start off with similar rules to the ones the knitters agreed and then diverge if we need to.

Main concerns over there were:

  • encouraging people to add pattern info to their posts and
  • making sure we have a rule in place to allow removal of ads

On that second point, it was generally agreed that active members of the community should be free to advertise their shops and products in context, but a complete stranger barging in to post a straight-up ad and then leave should be removed. Basically kind of vibe-based, depending on if you look like a spammer or not, which works fine for a small community tbh.

I’d love to hear from community members on this. Are you ok just following the template from /c/knitting for now? Is there something more specific to us you’d also like to see included in the official rules? Or do you maybe disagree with one of those two things above and want us to rethink?

Input very much welcome, thank you!

And for a bit more of a fun thing, we have a random community banner and icon that I guess the original owner just googled on the day and never thought about again. In /c/knitting I made a banner featuring some recent FOs that had been posted by the most active members, and that was pretty popular.

I’d be happy to knock up something similar for here, but also want to throw it open in case anyone else would like to give banner design a go! Maybe we’ll say if nobody else comes up with something by the end of March I’ll go full collage mode with our FOs, that gives time for a few entries if you fancy it?

We'll also need an icon and I did not make the knitting one so am officially looking for ideas of what we could use. Actual images, vague concepts, all assistance welcome!

Thank you for bearing with this wall of text. Now get back to stitching!

Stitchy friends! Since makers tend to make more than one sort of thing, and we crafters need to stick together, here's a list of fellow creative communities for your navigation pleasure.

For each craft I'll include the current most active community first as well as alternatives, and add each with their full URL as well as local links for Lemmy and Kbin users respectively.

Hi all!

I have another update for ClickStitch, a tracking and organization app for cross-stitching!

My initial idea was to add some form of digital needle minders, what came to be was Parked Threads! You can now place a "pin" on a stitch and add a label/specific thread to it.

Parked threads will be visible/hidden based on which thread is currently highlighted and can be turned off completely if you wish.

So far I'm loving adding quality of life features to aid in the cross-stitching process, if you have any ideas or feedback I'd love to here it!

There's also a Discord if you want to join!

As the tite states, just getting into this now as a way to avoid my phone in the evenings, I'm really enjoying it so far!

So I come from a 3d printing background and the whole idea of sharing is pretty prevalent there. It's kinda odd to me that there isn't a community based around sharing digitized art for embroidery. Or is there one and my old-ass just can't find it? Or are there enough other people here to share with? I'd love to start one by sending my Frank&Bride along.

Work in progress. It'll be a gas station style shirt with Frank on one brest and the Bride on the other. The final shirt is charcoal gray. I'm breaking needles and missing stitches but at least I'm going through a lot of thread too. Frank is in gray and purple (the Bride will be too) because those were our wedding colors. Yeah, we're that weird family that overdoes Halloween.

Hey gang. I just got a Brother machine and I was curious if that sort of thing was welcome here? Or if you all did it strictly analog?

This is my third embroidery project. Keeping consistently straight and even satin stitches is harder than I imagined it would be. Having printed the pattern on dark fabric hasn't helped either.

Finally finished all the outlines. There's nothing more pleasing than the moment when you can finally connect two endings and everything fits. Can't wait to add some color (✷‿✷)

I've been busy doing some spring cleaning around the app!

One thing that was important was to make things accessible so I have merged the "details" and "analytics" pages like so:

Are there any other stats that you think would be interesting to see? Would love to hear your thoughts over on the Discord!

I once again forgot to post on WIP Wednesday :( But at least I can show off this little goofball I finished a while ago.

Pattern is part of a set available here on Etsy.

Good evening, everyone!

I've done a search through this group and I'm not able to find anything on my topic question, so I'll create a post.

How do you organised your threads? I bought these plastic floss cards from Spotlight, and at first I thought they were a good idea because they'll last longer than cardboard ones, but I'm having troubles with the threads coming undone.

4-6 strands on one seems to hold well, but when there's only two, they start to unravel.

Any tips on how to manage this? Or should I start over with something else? I'm contemplating tiny pieces of painters tape to keep them together. I don't even know if I'm wrapping them correctly.

Also tried trusty Google, but I don't think I've used the right key words. A lot of results are not giving me what I need.

Thanks in advance. 🤗

I know I've posted this pattern here before but it seemed like a good quick pattern to try out the glow in the dark floss.

The verdict: this is much easier to deal with than my arch nemesis metallic floss. It does have some downsides in that the ends split pretty easily, and whatever it's made out of is kinda plasticy and doesn't really glide very well.

It wasn't terrible to work with at all though and I'll probably use it for parts of other patterns, but I wouldn't want to make anything big just with this

I've been making a lot of backend changes to the app recently with the main goal of improving the pattern sharing. Here are the changes!

1. Discord!

I've set up a Discord server for any feedback, suggestions and bugs! Feel free to join :)

https://clickstitch.app/discord

2. Link Preview Support for Project Sharing

You can now paste the URL to any site that supports link previews, e.g:

BlueSky:

Discord:

Instagram:

3. Miscellaneous Tools Page

There's now a tools page, for miscellaneous utilities that help with creating a new project! Currently supported is canvas sizes and number of skeins calculator, but if you have any suggestions let me know!

4. Active Project

The latest project to be stitches will now display at the top of the dashboard, for anyone who likes to start many projects!
