For context I have both in my possession but the Samsung needs to be returned by tomorrow, if I don’t keep it. I wrote down some notes below.

Samsung: $100 more Brighter, more vivid, deeper colors with fluid fps but the menu lags, and the controller sucks and buttons mash and sometimes don’t get picked up or they lag and you double input

Roku: fast and quick menus, controller has a good weight and feel to it and the tv responds quickly to the commands. Downside it’s grainier, greyer in tone and there’s no fluidity to motion, just looks like any ordinary tv

I've added speakers over the years and ended up with a mix of components that sounds pretty good. Wondered what others thought. Ancient 30 year old Polk S8 main speakers. (Still sound great, ain't broke, don't fix) Polk T30 center. Klipsch R-15M rear surround. Dual Sony SA-CS9 subs. Sony STR-DH770 receiver (probably the weakest link in the setup)

Hey guys, my current projector ( BenQ Tk800 )has been acting up lately. I contacted BenQ for potentially getting it fixed but sounds like it’s going to be $500 when it’s all said and done. I’ve had it for 5 years so I’d rather take that money and put towards an upgrade. I’ve been doing some research on projectors and I keep coming back to Epson 5050UB. That’s kind of the price range I’d like to stay within. I’m wanting to see what you guys have and experiences with any other projectors you can suggest. Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I really enjoy multichannel music. However, it seems like my Pioneer LX-305 doesn't support multichannel FLAC files, doesn't support Tidal's SA implementation, doesn't support Apple's, and doesn't support Amazon's.

Doing some research, the SA/Atmos streaming services seem extremely Balkanized, with Apple only supporting it on an ATV4K, Amazon on a Fire Stick 4K/Max, and Tidal on a Nvidia Shield. I own none of these devices and do all of my videos streaming from my Sony X90K.

I have my LX-305 connected to a Windows PC, and VLC running on that (VLC for my TV only outputs stereo) seems about my only option.

Do I understand the situation correctly? Do I have this amazing 5.1.2 and no way to get multichannel audio aside from the few DVD-As and BRs I own?

I really appreciate any advice on this because honestly kind of let down with this situation

My LG C3 65 sits on a low TV stand, my eyes hit slightly below center when I am sitting on the floor. I end up lying down with head propped up on couch seat most of the time, about 6-7 feet from the TV. I guess I could also get a taller TV stand, but a recliner low couch or floor seating option might be cheaper than purchasing both a new TV stand and replacing my current, terrible couch.

Hi guys! I have a 55in TV that I want to mount. The couch is opposite of the stair railings and the space under the stairs is empty. Is the best way to go about this to mount to railing? Is there a way I could build a fake wall under the stairs that I could mount the TV on and also use as storage? What would this entail? Thanks!

Hey all, I'm looking for some tech help.

I recently bought a universal remote, the Sofabaton U2, for my parents home theater set-up: FiosTV box, LG TV, and an Onkyo audio receiver. The Fios and Onkyo are set up with a Next Generation Remote Extender, which uses a battery to broadcast the remote signals to receivers in front of the boxes.

While the Sofabaton works just fine when pointing at the boxes, it seems like it might be incompatible with the extender set up.

Does anyone have any experience with Universal Remotes and Next Generation Remote Extenders?

As it currently is set up, my parents need to turn the Television and Audio on and off separately, so I was hoping a macro remote would solve the issue.

Anyone know an easy way to test if the audessey mic is working (other than running through a setup)? I brought it out of a box in my garage after running the initial set up a few years ago. Can’t seem to get past the front left speaker during a calibration.

Error: Background noise too loud. (it’s dead silent in the room)

I just bought the app. Trying to see if I need a new mic or there is something wrong with my setup. DENONx1400H, 5.1, KEF 750/650 FCR.

I'm in the process of renovating a house and at the wiring for speakers stage. Thinking about where to put the subwoofer, it occurred to me to cut a hole in the floor (prior to the hardwood install) and mount a subwoofer underneath where my couch would be (accessible in the basement). I'd finish off the hole with a wood grill like I'm using for the in floor ac vents.

Would I even need a box around the driver or could I just mount between the floor joists? Anyone see an issue with this? Would it work?

Hi all, I have a new project that I’d like some suggestions on:

My spouse wants me to build some floor to ceiling bookshelves into the back wall of our dedicated theater space, (16 foot wide and 12 foot ceiling) and I got the idea of potentially putting an array of unpowered subwoofers (likely 6-12 drivers in total) underneath the bookshelves.

As I’m limited by the depth of the bookshelves, the subwoofers have to fit in a depth of 12-13 inches tops. I doubt I can get away with more than 18-20 inches of height as I’ll need space for the isolation pucks/pads and two layers of 3/4 inch plywood for the base of the bookshelves.

To try to isolate the subwoofer enclosures from the bookshelves, I figure I would use isolation pads between each enclosure on every side but the front, so the only contact between subwoofer and bookshelves are the isolation pads.

I also think doubling up the base of each bookshelf and using green glue on all seams as well as isolation pads around the bookshelves would likely be sufficient to stop them from vibrating.

I did some back of napkin math, and figure that each 3 foot section of bookshelf will weigh 120 pounds empty and probably 300-400 pounds if they are totally full of books.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions I should consider?

Here’s a couple of items I’m not sure on that I’ve already identified:

  1. sealed or vented subs? I already have 4 Arendal 1723 2S subs, so I’m not hurting for bass, but I want IMPACT and air movement.

2). Driver size? I might be able to fit 15 inch drivers, but should I look at a larger number of 12 inch drivers?

3). Amplification: I have a 6 channel Buckeye amp I’d use to power the array. It can run ~300 watts a channel into 4 ohms all day long.

4). Am I nuts to think I can isolate the vibration enough? I think it’s possible, without doing plan B which is making a concrete slab frame for the subwoofers to go into?

Any advice is appreciated!

I just got a new 5.1 system and have my kiddos that sleep directly above the living room. During the day, the difference in volume between the dialogue and the big explosions aren't a big deal, but at night they are just too loud when I want to hear the dialogue clearly.

I currently have a Sony AVR receiver with the option to compress the dynamic range (ON or OFF), but I find even having this on does not do enough to reduce the loud explosions at night. I am looking into getting a Denon receiver that has Audyssey Dynamic Volume that can be set to Low, Medium or High. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using these different level settings. How much does High actually compress the sound vs Medium or Low?

Hi all,

I bought a TCL 85" Q6 TV with 600x300 vesa configuration, but I have a mount which states compatibility with 600 x 400, but not 600 x 300 outright. Will the mount work?

Hi,

Just setup my 5.1 Elac speakers. I got the Debut b6.2 as the LR, c6.2 as center and the 4" passive bookshelf was the surrounds. I already had an old monoprice 12" 150 watt subwoofer so I'm using that for now. All running off a Denon x1800.

The problem is that I feel like the audio from the front e speakers sounds just ok. It's fine but I feel like something is missing. The sounds and dialouge are clear but never really full or robust if that makes sense. I can pump up the volume to a point where it's too loud for me but it still feels lackluster.

Not sure if its the crappy sub I have but when playing action films, I feel the the big explosions are fine and boomy. But the regular audio is almost always lacking.

Already did the audessy calibration too

Any ideas if it's just a setting thing in my reciever? Or maybe the Elacs are just not to my taste? And suggestions for other speakers to try?

Thanks

I’ve had a 3.0 setup for a while with a Denon S750H. Just Sony Cores, what many here would probably consider garbage.

I pretty much convinced myself they were too, until I started actually putting the volume loud enough, also realizing some stuff is just mixed poorly.

I 100% need a sub and surrounds/rears, but I keep telling myself that the fronts need to be upgraded as well, when aside from the center, they really don’t (and even the center really isn’t bad in most circumstances).

How do you guys stop that nagging feeling to upgrade?
