Hi,

Quite new to this topic - hence, please bare with me for the stupid questions.

Any recommendations for a 5.1 set-up (preferrably with atmos effects, i.e. upfiring) for a budget of appx. 3-4k USD? Preference would be for a 'light' solution that blends well into the room and at least looks premium/classy. For example, I do like the design of the KEF LS50, though they still feel a bit chunky.

If that's not enough budget, how much do you think I should spend on a decent solution?

I have a Hisense U7 and a Yamaha RXV-6A receiver. Hooked up via eArc. The receiver is decoding Atmos and Vision fine from Xbox. Using the Apps on the TV, no Atmos format from Netflix, Disney etc (double-checked that I am testing with titles that have Atmos/Vision) is getting decoded. The receiver screen just says PCM. Help! I am using HDMI 2.1 cables.

I have a 55’ TCL R646 TV and I’m connecting it to my Denon s970h via HDMI cable in the eARC slot, I get normal audio from my TV but the subwoofer isn’t working at all, I switched over to Bluetooth audio then phono on my receiver and played music and I get sound from my subwoofer, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong for my subwoofer to not work when watching TV, thanks in advance

Edit: I might of fixed it, I clicked on the “sound modes” on the bottom of my denon remote and it seems to be working now

Last year I purchased a beautiful OLED that replaced my old 65-in Phillips TV flat(ish)screen. My old TV used to be mounted, but the OLED is now using that mount/entertainment center. I'd love to just set my old TV on my bedroom dresser but I'm missing the stand that I assume came with the TV years ago.

I'm just looking for any ideas to get this TV to sit securely on my dresser. Briefly looking online, I wasn't able to find any sort of simple stand replacement for the old Phillips, and I've seen some concerns about compatibility with some of the universal stands/mounts. I definitely want to avoid wall-mounting the TV. I'm open to simple DIY/creative solutions- it would be AWESOME if I could avoid having to buy something.

Hello so as the title says I have a RX-V765 and while I do absolutely love it but i know its getting long in the tooth, I know that Dolby hasn't sat idle all these years. I am interested to see if it would be worth upgrading the sound system to a more modern AV. I personally DO NOT watch TV or movies, the sound system is used exclusively for my CD collection (I have an old Sony CDP-CX333 filled with CDs) I am running a 7.2 system and use Dolby Prologic IIx for the CDs so I can have that immersive sound I love.

I am wondering if the more modern 7.2.2 or 7.2.4 setups and moving from Prologic IIx to modern Dolby Surround and its codec for 2c to simulated Surround would be a worth wile upgrade from my current 7.2 with Prologic IIx? I have read into atmos and also wondering if there is any benefit installing either ceiling or upward firing speakers into my setup to achieve the 7.2.2/7.2.4 since I am only listening to CD 2channel audio going through Codecs to make it surround sound. Does modern Dolby Surround also simulate the 3D space of Atmos with 2c source audio or do I have to find Atmos mixed media and use that? I have read into atmos but nearly every review is from a movie or TV point of view and doesn't really talk much about music really.

And I guess the last question simply put, if it is worth upgrading what would you recommend for around 800 on the used market? I am no stranger to ebay hunting, and am not above buying an older high end unit for 800 vs getting a newer low end unit for 800.

I've been getting used to filmmaker mode (movie mode on my TV) for a week now and I've gotten used to the warmer tones and overall darker image. One thing I'm curious about, do you guys use filmmaker mode for everything? do you ever change it for SDR content or animations? or does all content benefit and provider a more accurate image with it being left on?

What's the lowest model I should go for with Sony TV to get the most out of it that actually starts getting better than Samsung under the same price range?

If I've a low budget, would samsung be a better preference for me than Sony? If my budget is under 1.3k - 1.5k?

My needs: I need above 55". Thinking about 60"+. Need 4k display.

Hi everyone! First post ever on Reddit so apologies if I don't adhere to proper etiquette :)

I moved into a new house that has a pair of ceiling speakers which I cannot seem to be able to connect to my TV system. I tried reverse engineering what this setup looks like but I am failing to crack the last piece. These are my basic ceiling speakers which are connected to a volume control unit , and the other end is misteriously connected to a wall switch. There are two wall plates that have RCA, coax and HDMI cables - but I did not manage to get sound my hooking up any input units (laptop, TV) through these cables, which I guess it also makes sense since I did not see the wall switch or volume control unit connected to anything else. I am attaching pics of every module as well as a diagram with my best interpretation of what is going on.

I did buy a cheap Digital Audio Amp with bluetooth that I hooked up directly to the input of the volume control unit and I was able to get sound coming from the speakers, so my first certainty is that they are working.

The part I cannot seem to figure out is why is the output end of the volume control unit is connected to a wall switch, especially when there doesnt seem to be anything else coming out from it - I could not trace where the cables from the wall plates are coming from, I do not have attic access which makes it a tad more challenging. I did not end up in good terms with the house seller, so reaching out to him is unfortunately not an option.

Your time is valuable, so I took pics of everything and I am also attaching a diagram with my best interpretation of the setup - any help or leads from this expert crowd would help a lot!

Maybe I'm just getting old but these movies are not aging well. I'm not sure if it's the 4k putting emphasis on how bad the special effects(including the forced perspective shots) are now with time, but they took me out of the movies everytime I saw something janky including my wife who watched these for the first time. I will say The audio is pretty amazing on these though im not sure if its a new remix for atmos or if my reciever was doing all the heavy lifting. Wonder if anyone else has been disappointed with any old time favorites in 4k?

Heya folks, looking for advice on heights speakers - are the KEF Ci160QR any good, and would it suit my current setup?

B&W 603 S2 & HTM6 S2 LCR

KEF Q50a surrounds

Open to other suggestions, though preferably 6.5" speakers as 8" would severely limit placement flexibility.

Hi guys, I have an LG 77" C2 and a Marantz C50. Before the Marantz I had a 15 years old receiver and as the LG does have plenty of HDMI inputs I ran everything through the TV and only connected the receiver via ARC for sound. I have the latest Apple TV, PS4 and a turntable (which is connected via a preamp and RCA cable). In this setup I was able to control everything with one remote. Is there a reason I should connect the devices to the Marantz and not the TV? The only problem I have is that in this case I need to use several remotes just to do a simple task. Thanks

I've got a pair of Polk T15 bookshelf speakers. I have to move my setup to a more limited space where stands wouldn't be ideal and I wouldn't be able to mount them so I'm looking for my best options. I'm considering getting a new media center to hold everything, but my problem is that I'd have to put my speakers inside the cabinets. How badly is this going to affect the sound?

I was trying to look for one that would leave some space around each speaker so they aren't butted up to the sides and top but would that even help? Can I put some acoustic foam inside the cabinet to help and just move the speakers all the way up to the front?

Hey everyone,

I have an older Denon AVR-1912, still works good but with a new 4k TV I was thining of upgrading to a better model. My question is do I need to, I'm a little confused. If I use eARC on the TV to the 1912 and have my cable box and PS5 plugged into the TV directly will it do the same thing a newer 4k ready receiver would do or to get the best sound and video should I be upgrading to something better? Hope this makes sense

I have Epson 5050ub running through a yamaha receiver via HMDI to a 7.1 speaker setup. My main streaming device is Apple 4k.

I generally have no issues with this setup related to audio. All audio is in sync except for certain movies on plex (some work). These movies are super out of sync like half a second. It also seems to be progressive, like start in sync then go out and stay out.

What would cause this to happen with certain movies on plex and is there anything I can do about it?

Note: I am not the manager of the plex server and don’t have access to the settings.

Note: I know it is not the movies themselves as I checked on other devices.

Noob here with anything that isn't live sound related. I have about 500ft of Belden 1694a leftover from another job (sdi video application job). I need to pull audio from a tv to an amp for a small sized conference room. Can I use the Belden cable and terminate with RCA ends? Seems like a no brainer and should be fine but I just want to confirm before I pull the cable. Thanks.

For context I have both in my possession but the Samsung needs to be returned by tomorrow, if I don’t keep it. I wrote down some notes below.

Samsung: $100 more Brighter, more vivid, deeper colors with fluid fps but the menu lags, and the controller sucks and buttons mash and sometimes don’t get picked up or they lag and you double input

Roku: fast and quick menus, controller has a good weight and feel to it and the tv responds quickly to the commands. Downside it’s grainier, greyer in tone and there’s no fluidity to motion, just looks like any ordinary tv

I've added speakers over the years and ended up with a mix of components that sounds pretty good. Wondered what others thought. Ancient 30 year old Polk S8 main speakers. (Still sound great, ain't broke, don't fix) Polk T30 center. Klipsch R-15M rear surround. Dual Sony SA-CS9 subs. Sony STR-DH770 receiver (probably the weakest link in the setup)

Hey guys, my current projector ( BenQ Tk800 )has been acting up lately. I contacted BenQ for potentially getting it fixed but sounds like it’s going to be $500 when it’s all said and done. I’ve had it for 5 years so I’d rather take that money and put towards an upgrade. I’ve been doing some research on projectors and I keep coming back to Epson 5050UB. That’s kind of the price range I’d like to stay within. I’m wanting to see what you guys have and experiences with any other projectors you can suggest. Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I really enjoy multichannel music. However, it seems like my Pioneer LX-305 doesn't support multichannel FLAC files, doesn't support Tidal's SA implementation, doesn't support Apple's, and doesn't support Amazon's.

Doing some research, the SA/Atmos streaming services seem extremely Balkanized, with Apple only supporting it on an ATV4K, Amazon on a Fire Stick 4K/Max, and Tidal on a Nvidia Shield. I own none of these devices and do all of my videos streaming from my Sony X90K.

I have my LX-305 connected to a Windows PC, and VLC running on that (VLC for my TV only outputs stereo) seems about my only option.

Do I understand the situation correctly? Do I have this amazing 5.1.2 and no way to get multichannel audio aside from the few DVD-As and BRs I own?

I really appreciate any advice on this because honestly kind of let down with this situation

My LG C3 65 sits on a low TV stand, my eyes hit slightly below center when I am sitting on the floor. I end up lying down with head propped up on couch seat most of the time, about 6-7 feet from the TV. I guess I could also get a taller TV stand, but a recliner low couch or floor seating option might be cheaper than purchasing both a new TV stand and replacing my current, terrible couch.

Hi guys! I have a 55in TV that I want to mount. The couch is opposite of the stair railings and the space under the stairs is empty. Is the best way to go about this to mount to railing? Is there a way I could build a fake wall under the stairs that I could mount the TV on and also use as storage? What would this entail? Thanks!
