Average Lemmy enjoyer:

[The Silence of the Lambs] stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee who is hunting a serial killer named "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine), who skins his female victims. To catch him, she seeks the advice of the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. ...

The Silence of the Lambs was a sleeper hit that gradually gained widespread success and critical acclaim.[63] Foster, Hopkins, and Levine garnered much acclaim for their performances. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 95% of 153 film critics have given the film a positive review, with an average rating of 8.80/10. The website's critical consensus reads: "Director Jonathan Demme's smart, taut thriller teeters on the edge between psychological study and all-out horror, and benefits greatly from stellar performances by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster."[64] Metacritic, another review aggregator, assigned the film a weighted average score of 86 out of 100, based on 20 reviews from mainstream critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[65] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A−" on an A+ to F scale.[66] ...

The film won the Big Five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Demme), Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally), making it only the third film in history to accomplish that feat.

This movie's got a minimal plot and theme, it's mostly just a series of fight scenes. And the fight scenes have good and bad points. On the good side, the main actors are legit traditional karate experts so their movements and attacks all look good. On the meh side, the fight scenes are the sort where the bad guys attack one at a time and a single hit from a skinny schoolgirl will knock them out for several minutes. On the bad side, the movie does this thing where every so often an "instant replay" will show the most recent hit again. It's not even from a different angle ~~or in slow motion~~, it's just... the same thing again.

Overall, it's worth watching if you're into karate or low-budget martial arts films. It's available in a couple different languages:

This movie went straight-to-DVD, and... yeah, it's pretty bad. The acting is terrible, the fight scenes suck, and the special effects are very limited. But it does have a couple 80s New Wave musicians, like Martin Kemp (bassist from Spandau Ballet), Adam Ant, and Grace Jones. Also, Robert "Airplane!" Hays is the bad guy, James Hong (Mr Ping from Kung Fu Panda) has a role, and there are rebels that use Mac Pluses and those enormous IBM Model M keyboards. So if you expect something cheesy, it can be entertaining.

This is the Spanish version of Hard Times, one of the best films of 70s tough-guy movie star Charles Bronson. No English version available, sorry!

Hey, community guidelines say we can post dailymotion videos here! Good thing too, because this is a good one.

Even if you don't like lawyers, even if you don't like the military, even if you don't like Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore, this movie is still worth watching. That's because the dialogue is solid. Probably because it started out as a play, and therefore doesn't rely on stunts or action or even great cinematography. If you've already seen it, watch it again, and try to see if you can find even one line of dialogue that you could remove, that would make things better. It's tough. Because every line belongs there. That's the truth... even if "you can't handle" it!

The plot follows the court-martial of two U.S. Marines charged with the murder of a fellow Marine and the tribulations of their lawyers as they prepare a case.

This movie explains the human condition with all the candor of a much-upvoted shitpost, and all the beauty of a classical painting. The final scene perfectly depicts our contemporary global situation.

[An] epic historical drama film produced, written and directed by Werner Herzog. Klaus Kinski stars in the title role of Spanish soldier Lope de Aguirre, who leads a group of conquistadores down the Amazon River in South America in search of the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. ... Aguirre opened to widespread critical acclaim, and quickly developed a large international cult film following. It was given an extensive arthouse theatrical release in the United States in 1977, and remains one of the director's best-known films. Several critics have declared the film a masterpiece, and it has appeared on Time magazine's list of "All Time 100 Best Films".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aguirre,_the_Wrath_of_God

FUN FACT: the movie was originally shot with the actors speaking in English, since it was the only language that everyone in the cast knew. But the funds to do the original post-sync were stolen, and they ended up dubbing it again in German.

The film's reputation through the years has continued to grow. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 96% of 50 critics gave the film a positive review, with an average rating of 9/10. The site's critics consensus reads, "A haunting journey of natural wonder and tangible danger, Aguirre transcends epic genre trappings and becomes mythological by its own right."[28]

J. Hoberman has written that Aguirre "is not just a great movie but an essential one ... Herzog's third feature ... is both a landmark film and a magnificent social metaphor".[29] Danny Peary wrote, "To see Aguirre for the first time is to discover a genuine masterpiece. It is overwhelming, spellbinding; at first dreamlike, and then hallucinatory."

Not quite as charming as the first one, but not really terrible either.

Van Damme isn't in this one, but "Ray Jackson" is back, and many of the other actors are somewhat recognizeable from other films. (i.e. the main guy was in a John Wick and a Matrix; the wise sage character does the voice of the noodle selling bird in Kung Fu Panda, etc.) and they are joined by Pat "Mr Miyagi" Morita. Also once they get to the kumite, there are a bunch of different martial artists like kung fu and muay thai fighters, a judoka, a capoeira guy, etc. There's a framing story which is right on the line between cringe and camp, and indeed the seriousness with which you take this movie is inversely proportional to how enjoyable you'll find it. Meaning: turn your brain off and it's pretty fun.
