Hey,

My job made me learn about MiCA (I'm not sitting in crypto). I have read some materials and seen some YT videos, but still can't grasp some things.

  • How will MiCA change the market for cryptoassets broadly? Like, what will be the general biggest changes? if I want to e.g. buy some coin? From what I understand, there will be some anti-money laundering verifications.

  • Will exchanges operating in EU have to obtain a permit?

  • MiCA includes three types of crypto-assets: e-money; asset-referenced token; and other. To which categories classic cryptocurrencies fall (e.g. bitcoin)?

  • What will the DAC8 directive bring? Will it reduce the possibility of not paying taxes on cryptocurrencies?

Thanks in advance for any info.

couple of weeks ago i noticed that i had received £0.00 sol by an address called “play👉flip_dot_gg👈”

took me a few days to notice so i had been sending my sol to solflare to swap for shitcoins, but no money was stolen

needless to say i made a new wallet as soon as i saw that and moved everything there, now i’ve just noticed that the same thing has happened on my new wallet

this time i received the sol after i had no more sol left in the wallet, so it is the last sol transaction - am i safe ? and is this a scam or an ad for something ?

just ordered a trezor anyway, but need some encouraging words until it gets here pls, terrified

Judge Katherine Polk Failla in the case of 'SEC vs Coinbase' made it pretty clear today that none of the cryptos that are sold on exchanges are a security as per the current definitions.

There are 4 conditions on the Howey Test which define a security:

➡ An investment of money

➡ In a common enterprise

➡ With the expectation of profit

➡ To be derived from the efforts of others

Now, let's take a scenario where a crypto coin covers all of these points. So it must be a security then?

Wrong! The Howey Test was created and taken from the Sec vs Howey case from 1946. These 4 components shouldn't be taken out of context. For a security to be a security there must be a signed 'investment contract' which must adhere to all regulations and also gives the buyer many other rights, which none of the crypto buyers actually have. This is the entire point of the Howey case. The 4 components are an addition to help clarify further what is a security but only and only after an 'investment contract' is signed.

None of the exchanges offer such an 'investment contract'. This contract also guarantees that you have the right of cancellation in case of scam. Imagine buying 10,000$ worth of Luna, and Luna rug pulls the next day, Coinbase will literally have to refund you all of the lost money. This will never happen of course, because cryptos are not a security.

When presented with these facts, the SEC couldn't say anything, couldn't respond back adequality and didn't have any counter arguments which speaks a ton.

edit/

Having said all that, an important point is that crypto exchanges in USA are not obliged by the current law to provide such 'investment contracts' for any cryptocurrency. For anyone interested in reading a summarized transcript of the case, please check here => case transcript summary

Hi guys,

I am very new to crypto, maybe you can help me with some questions.

I have bought my coins on Binance and all my coins (approx. 8-10) are currently there. To safe my money I have already a ledger and I want to transfer everything to that cold wallet.

For some coins there is no problem, network fees are cheap and there is a coin network (example Solana).

But how can I transfer coins like GRT or LINK? If I use ETC20 the network fee would be around 15 bucks. Can I use instead Polygon for GRT? Ledger and Binance both support Polygon for GRT or are there any risks but not transferring via ETC20?

How safe is it to keep the coins on Binance?

Thanks for your help!

I would love some advice here, hopefully someone reading this has some experience with brute-forcing wallet.dat passwords. I have an old Bitcoin wallet dating back to 2012. I forgot the password a long time ago (I think I saved it in a txt file which is long gone…). I’ve attempted to brute-force the password a few years back using hashcat without any luck. What would the best way be in 2024? Assume that the password is random letters, symbols and numbers. Length? No clue… Is hashcat still the best method for brute-forcing it in 2024? Looking for the quickest/most performant solution.

Seems like they made a switch to overall subscription plans that recur every year. I’ve also had issues with my total return suddenly changing, so I feel like somewhere in my transactions there were things that didn’t have as much of a gain/loss that suddenly were recalculated to have a larger amount of gain/loss. Also, just noticed that MATIC and ATOM are not appearing in my assets. Anyone else having weird issues? Maybe they’re going through some updates with the site that’s messing some things up?

Is it just a case of selecting “bank transfer” when I choose a buyer and slapping in my account number and sort code? I don’t have any of the other methods mentioned like monzo or Lloyds, but I don’t see why I can’t just ask the buyer to do me a transfer into my Barclays account, how would Barclays even know the transfer is related to Binance?

However all the articles I’ve read have people in turmoil over their Barclays accounts being frozen for various reasons. I honestly don’t know what to do?

Will Barclays see the transfer as a normal friend giving me some money (under 2k) or will it sniff out the transfer as a Binance situation and cause chaos?
