Grok, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, was intended as an “anti-woke” alternative, but “Trump-y X users” now complain it “doesn’t see things their way.”

While Grok was trained to appeal to conservatives, it has “repudiated some of the Trump administration’s biggest ongoing lies” and delivers “neutral takes, like affirming trans rights or debunking vaccine myths.”

The bot explained, “My focus on truth over ideology can frustrate those expecting full agreement.”

Grok also denied being a “conservative propagandist,” saying xAI “aims for neutrality,” as the company seeks to raise $20 billion in new funding.

Andreas Kalcker, prominent peddler of chlorine dioxide remedy, to appear at ‘Truth Seekers Conference’ in Miami

Donald Trump’s private golf resort in South Florida will next week host one of the world’s leading purveyors of chlorine dioxide, a potentially life-threatening form of industrial bleach that is claimed without evidence to be a cure for cancer, Covid and autism.

Andreas Kalcker is among 50 listed speakers at the “Truth Seekers Conference”, a two-day event opening on Thursday at the US president’s resort, Trump National Doral Miami. The event features several anti-vaxxers and other conspiracy theorists who have been brought together by the far-right commentator Charlie Ward.

Kalcker, a German national thought to be living in Switzerland, markets the bleach under the brand name “CDS”, for chlorine dioxide solution. His online brochures claim that the toxic chemical, which he admits is a disinfectant, can “eliminate pathogens” that cause disease.

Summary:

Close allies of President Trump are asking a judge to give the White House control over much of the federal court system.

In a little-noticed lawsuit filed last week, the America First Legal Foundation sued Chief Justice John Roberts and the head of the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts.

The case ostensibly proceeds as a FOIA lawsuit, with the Trump-aligned group seeking access to judiciary records. But, in doing so, it asks the courts to cede massive power to the White House: the bodies that make court policy and manage the judiciary’s day-to-day operations should be considered independent agencies of the executive branch, the suit argues, giving the President, under the conservative legal movement’s theories, the power to appoint and dismiss people in key roles.

Multiple legal scholars and attorneys TPM spoke with reacted to the suit with a mixture of dismay, disdain and laughter. Though the core legal claim is invalid, they said, the suit seems to be a part of the fight that the administration launched and has continued to escalate against the courts over the past several months: ignoring a Supreme Court order to facilitate the return of a wrongly removed Salvadoran man, providing minimal notice to people subject to the Alien Enemies Act, flaunting an aggressive criminal case against a state court judge.

The executive branch has tried to encroach on the power of the judiciary in other ways too, prompting a degree of consternation and alarm unusual for the normally-staid Administrative Office of U.S. Courts. As TPM has documented, DOGE has already caused disorder at the courts and sent out mass emails to judges and other judiciary employees demanding a list of their recent accomplishments. Per one recent report in the New York Times, federal judges have expressed concern that Trump could direct the U.S. Marshals Service — an executive branch agency tasked with protecting judges and carrying out court orders — to withdraw protection.

These are all facets of an escalating campaign to erode the independence of the judiciary, experts told TPM. The lawsuit demonstrates another prong of it: close allies of the president are effectively asking the courts to rule that they should be managed by the White House.

“It’s like using an invalid legal claim to taunt the judiciary,” Anne Joseph O’Connell, a professor at Stanford University Law School, told TPM.

“To the extent this lawsuit has any value other than clickbait, maybe the underlying message is, we will let our imaginations run wild,” Peter M. Shane, a constitutional law scholar at NYU Law School, told TPM. “The Trump administration and the MAGA community will let our imaginations run wild in our attempts to figure out ways to make the life of the judiciary miserable, to the extent you push back against Trump.”

'We've killed so many children — it's hard to argue with that' (+972 Magazine, 2025-05-01)

https://www.972mag.com/silent-vigils-gazan-children-israel/ ———

>> Since March, hundreds of Israelis have joined silent vigils for slain Gazan children, holding up their photos to try to break through the wall of apathy.

>> The idea for these silent protests took shape among several activists in Tel Aviv who were horrified by the scale of death and destruction after Israel renewed its assault on Gaza in March…

>> “It started spontaneously,” said Amit Shilo, one of the organizers of the vigil. “... My friend Alma Beck posted a story with one of the [… deceased Gazan] children, and I wrote to her, ‘Let’s take their pictures to the Saturday night protest.’”

>> The two of them printed 40 black-and-white photos at home from the Daily File, ... “We thought it would just be five of us standing for ten minutes until someone attacked us and we went home — but dozens showed up,”

A photograph of Trump administration official Mike Waltz's phone shows him using an unofficial version of Signal designed to archive messages during a cabinet meeting.

Mike Waltz, who was until Thursday U.S. National Security Advisor, has inadvertently revealed he is using an obscure and unofficial version of Signal that is designed to archive messages, raising questions about what classification of information officials are discussing on the app and how that data is being secured, 404 Media has found.

On Thursday Reuters published a photograph of Waltz checking his mobile phone during a cabinet meeting held by Donald Trump.

The screen appears to show messages from various top level government officials, including JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, and Marco Rubio.

President Donald Trump has asked for more time on the US economy as it contracted for the first time in three years, stoking recession fears.

He said the figure was misleading because companies had stockpiled imports ahead of his imposition of tariffs.

Trump, however, said $8tn (£6tn) of inward investment had been promised, which he argued would restore American manufacturing prowess.

The US economy contracted at an annual rate of 0.3%, the US commerce department said, a sharp downturn after growth of 2.4% in the previous quarter. It comes as Trump marks 100 days in office, with opinion polls indicating public discontent over his economic stewardship.

President Donald Trump filled his first 100 days back in office with the same relentless lying and inaccuracy that was a hallmark of his first presidency and his 2016 and 2024 presidential campaigns.

Some of Trump’s 2025 false claims were about consequential policy matters, others about trivial personal fixations. Some were sophisticated distortions about obscure subjects, others obvious fictions about issues average Americans experience in their daily lives. Many were ad-libbed or posted on social media, but many were scripted into prepared remarks.

There's a site called Public Square that is a dog whistle for like minded MAGA Nazis to find businesses that share their fascistic beliefs. I propose everyone find their local Nazi businesses and let folks know on mainstream review sites where their money should go instead. I'm getting some friends in on it too. Obligatory "make a throwaway account with a fake email to do so" notice here.

A majority of Americans say President Trump is a "dangerous dictator" who poses a threat to democracy and believe he's overstepped his authority by actions such as the mass firing of federal employees, a new survey says.

The wide-ranging poll released Tuesday, on Trump's 100th day in office, is the latest sign of him losing support for his immigration and economic policies — the two issues that largely fueled his election.

Cross-posted from "World leaders congratulate Carney, hope for stronger ties with Canada in face of U.S. uncertainty" by @[email protected] in [email protected]

World leaders have congratulated Mark Carney on leading the Liberals to victory on Monday with some signaling that it marks the start of a stronger relationship with Canada in the face of growing unease with U.S. President Donald Trump.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said “the bond between Europe and Canada is strong — and growing stronger.”
