And what's an example of a non-atomized society?

  1. Which seasons do you think are best?

  2. What episodes are best? If you like episode Such-and-Such and it's not in a good season - I can download just that episode.

  3. [𝙻𝚘𝚊𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐...]

I thought I had a third question. Maybe I'll edit that later.

It's very obvious that amerikkka is circling the drain now, but clearly this didn't just happen in a vacuum. It must've started crumbling at some point... but when?

Some people might say it started after 9/11, others might say it goes back to the Raegan administration. A few might even say it started after losing the Vietnam War, or when they went off the gold standard. Or maybe even earlier...

What do you think? three-heads-thinking

Was thinking about this intellectual period last night. I don't know a lot but I get the vague impression of it being too much on the revisionist side for my taste, although the label New Left is so broad that I'm sure there's a huge span of thought that it gets applied to.

What theory still holds up from that time, what theorists do you agree/disagree with, what texts would you recommend to people who want to understand more about this time, t's origins, links to the French 1968 movement ,etc?

It feels like I'm constantly hearing about prostests only after they happen. Is there a way I can leanr about these sooner that doesn't require talking to people irl before I am already involved. Like can I just show up?

I am very neurodivergent to be clear. These things are hard for me.

How do I even get involved locally? I am part of CPUSA but I've never ventered beyond the online space. Is there a way to keep up with whats going on locally without having to meet people irl regularly?

Whenever I buy clothes they always end up getting holes quickly, I burn through socks fast, my bags keep breaking, my phones magically shit themselves and my chargers melt. I'm sick of everything being a wear part and I'm wondering where people get things that last.

This is not for sketchy reasons, I swear. All the primo spaces in our apartment building's bike storage room are taken up by rusting rotting flat-tired cobwebbed piece of shit bikes that clearly haven't been used in years. Half their owners probably moved out of the building and left them there. I have repeatedly asked building management to implement some kind of use-it-or-lose-it tagging system so if a bike isn't moved in a year it gets junked but they're basically useless and will never get around to doing even minor computer-only things unless you pester them at least six times, let alone something requiring actual effort like this. So.

I want to pick the locks on these bikes and either move them to the back of the bike room or if they're obviously junk just throw them out. How difficult is it to pick kryptonite u-locks? Is it also possible to re-lock them afterward? Is there any danger of damaging the bike locks? Some of the bikes also use tube-style combo locks which I know can be fairly easily cracked using the screwdriver tension method (and already managed to do this for a tiny 3-combo lock). Any general tips for getting started? Is it basically impossible to go from never having picked a lock to picking a u-lock? Assume time is no constraint, I can hang out there and pick them for however long is needed.

It might be a dumb question but I don’t want to risk fucking him up somehow—what I’m most worried about is his stuffing getting mildew-y or otherwise borked. I’m pretty sure, almost certain actually, he’s polyester inside. Do I just dunk him in some soapy water, scrub him, and leave him in the sun for a while? Can I throw him in the washer next time I do laundry? He’d fucking love that.

Whenever I’m really sad it feels like either heartburn, or this “tightness” or something just below my sternum.

Also Creamsicle says he’s sorry for making a dumb post. Here’s a picture of him with a noodle on his head.

Btw I take him to the vet when he eats cat food because that’s Gregory’s cat food. I tell the vet he got into some chocolate so they’ll give him an emetic and maybe he’ll decide the cat food isn’t worth it and there won’t be a next time, but he’s an idi—GOD DAMNIT CREAMSICLE COME BACK HERE.

”Yay!”

Obviously fuck these laws. And even if these laws state that universities cannot legally divest, they should divest anyway and say 'fuck you, take me to court'--but, with that aside, what are the actual details of these laws?

I know it varies state to state, but in PA, for example, where the UPenn encampment was raided this morning, the university says "Penn remains unequivocally opposed to divestment, and it is unlawful for institutions receiving funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."

From what I can tell, there's just a 2016 law that states that the government of PA essentially can't do business with entities that have divested from Israel--but how does that legally prevent the entity from actually doing so on their part?

I keep seeing this claim that "It's illegal to divest, so we as a university can't do so. Tough luck." Not only is it ethically BS, but it seems to be a straight up lie, too?

It's been 8 years since I bought it and it still runs like a champ but ideally I'd like to actually utilize the 4k portion of my monitors.

Current Build:
Processor: Ryzen 7 3700X
Motherboard: ASUS B550-F
RAM: 32GB DDR4
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

Ideally I'd like to hit at least 16GB of VRAM since I'm of the opinion that if I'm gonna spend more than $500 on a graphics card, it better at least last the next decade of new releases gaming wise. My motherboard can probably stand an upgrade too since I have a bunch of unused USB-C ports due to the fact that the B550-F doesn't have any 3.1 headers.

Don't really have a budget but I'm posting this in the hopes someone will tell me "don't buy the 4080 super you idiot" and inform me of a better, cheaper, alternative majima-dapper

.obviously YES I will be running windows, linuxheads please remain calm dennis-stare

In the USA. Up until a few years ago dental visits were nothing to really think about. I went twice a year and got a cleaning. There was one bad place I went to a decade ago that kept "finding" small cavities to "proactively" fill but thankfully I switched to another and all is well. My home care routine is perfect. I use an electric toothbrush twice a day, floss, use mouthwash, wear a nightguard to protect against grinding, and don't really drink or eat sweets.

Yet two years ago dentists started hitting me with all this talk of periodontic cleanings. Deep cleanings. Scalings, whatever - getting in the pockets under the gums. At this point things took a turn. It started to feel like I was a cash cow being milked for all I was worth. I was even convinced to fork over a few grand for a gum graft. It literally made things worse, like I had more recession after the graph - more of the tooth was exposed. The dentist then gaslit me saying it was totally fine and it didn't need to be redone even though it was objectively worse than before when they were emphatic that it needed to be done.

Now I go to a new dentist because I move and the entire thing feels like an upsell from front to back. I think I got upsold on procedures four separate times during the visit. They even refused to give me a regular cleaning and told me I had to do the expensive periodontic cleaning where they charge me out the ass. Like what the fuck is going on? My gut after I left the office was just reeling and screaming at me not to trust the dentist. I can't even put my finger on why, they seemed very professional and answered all my questions. But the gut can pick up on stuff the brain can't, maybe.

This is all just really upsetting. I'm lucky enough that all my interactions with the medical system so far have not had this air of conning me into doing expensive procedures. Now I feel like I can't trust these people that went to these crazy expensive/prestigious/exclusive schools to spend years of their lives learning how to care for my health. Am I going crazy? Are dentists really all scammers?

Someone posted this a few years ago, but there was a house that was on fire. I believe neighbors of the resident went inside after the fire and discovered some sort of dungeon or released some kids held captive or something of that nature.

Later cops would be seen going in and out of the house, collecting things, but I don’t think they went after the person who lived there. They might’ve lit the house on fire again - or perhaps they were “investigating” and lit it on fire in the first place.

The details are a bit fuzzy. But the whole thing was recorded and live streamed on Facebook by the neighbors who were suspicious and angry that the cops and possibly firefighters were trying to hide something.

There were some articles about it but I’m only remembering it now due to a dream I had

Found it https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/aug/03/facebook-posts/conspiracy-linking-milwaukee-police-alleged-sex-tr/

I googled “residents live stream police entering and exiting house on fire” and filtered it to 2020 and 2021

[CW: is this body shaming? I'm not sure.]

I genuinely find "conventionally attractive" people (like celebrities), well, kind of ugly IMO.

This is particularly evident when you look at game mods where people can create what they consider to be the most attractive characters their imagination allows. I find most of them grotesque even. Exaggerated forms.

Che Guevara though, Che Guevara was hot. So maybe I like some conventionally attractive looks. But you know what I mean. I don't like muscle men or hyper feminine women. I prefer androgyny almost.

Anyway, just a weird shower thought.

I'm looking to set up a machine for my stepdad to record and edit music on. Audacity is the first choice that comes to mind, but I'm wondering if there are better/more fitting to usecase options out there.

Fun fact: The custom cups to put booze in? $35. The babysitting service’s nighttime shift that takes care of your kids after 10pm so you can go get drunk and fuck your wife? Only $27.

I'm reading Before the Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus about how the USA shifted to the right an unthinkable amount between FDR and Reagan. Obviously there are a lot of things that don't survive transposition across 75 years of political realignment but I am starting to think nearly all dems would find themselves to Nixon's right if they were sent through a time machine.

Donations usually go through stuff like Paypal. Here are my thoughts:

  • the money cannot be used to buy anything from outside Gaza
  • the money can be used to buy inside Gaza, but because of the way markets work it'll be really stupid
  • only good thing is that it might fall into the resistance's hands and they can make use of it, but then again they have larger sources of funding

Am I missing something? Is this just not productive?
