I first read that as "...confirmed to run for 2 straight hours. Starting on October 3, every Thursday."

Astigmatism...

This was really good!

@[email protected] described the character dynamics perfectly.

I would only add that Kuroma's name means Black Demon or Dark Demon.

The Kuma (bear) kaijin minions only being able to say "bear" resembles the vocabulary of a Pokemon.

I thought that Chizuko was going to get a sexy villainess costume, but I guess this show isn't going there.

Ukraine has said that its forces have withdrawn from the eastern city of Vuhledar, a defensive bastion that had resisted repeated Russian attacks since Vladimir Putin’s 2022 full-scale invasion.

The military command in Kyiv said its troops left late on Tuesday. They had retreated in order to preserve personnel and combat equipment, it said, adding that Russian combat units had attacked from three directions and were close to “encircling” the city.

The fall of Vuhledar is a boost for the Kremlin and comes as Russian troops advance across the eastern Donetsk oblast. In February they captured the city of Avdiivka, outside the regional capital of Donetsk, occupied in 2014.

I wasn't impressed by this.

The art is great and faithful to the manga, and keeping it in black and white preserved the look of the manga, some good framerates in the animation, but...

It felt static and lacking in filmmaking artistry, like they decided to animate manga panels, without zooming and panning and all the other stuff that films do, instead of taking advantage of the animation/filmmaking medium.

Also no soundtrack. Some atmospheric music could have made this a lot more effective, instead of presenting manga panels in almost-silence.

The narrative structure of flashbacks felt distracting: "Oh yeah, my father was obsessed like this..." I'm not sure if this is how the manga story is written.

Cultural note: The wooden tub...

spoilerthat they find the father curled up in a spiral inside resembles a traditional Japanese coffin/burial tub.

Another illustration.

There was a show (that I can't remember the name) where there was a serial kidnapper who kept their victims inside wood soy sauce fermenting vats that resemble larger versions of Japanese coffins.

Yes, there's a little black rectangle on the floor of the shuttle, likely a phone or a or maybe a ticket, saying "PASS"

It's not like the S&P500 committee is going to make wild and crazy decisions based on a hunch. It's still very much based on replacing older shrinking companies with newer more vigorous representatives in the same industry.

The Helsinki Commission is an interesting US congressional organization, consisting of members from the Senate, House and the Executive branch.

Even more interesting, is it's currently chaired by a Republican, Joe Wilson, aka the "You lie!" guy whom you would expect to be MAGA partisan.

This is why you shouldn't put your money into human-managed mutual funds.

Humans make idiotic decisions like helping Musk buy Twitter.

When they get their orders and talking points directly from Russia's FSB, they don't have to hire legislative staff to work for their constituents, do research on issues, and solve problems.

They can use the money for political campaigning instead. No wonder they're successful!

Good thinking! /s

p.s. The Workshop Battle will be in one week on October 6th! Another cours? https://x.com/Crunchyroll/status/1832789063708860708?t=ZJDYO5Lsl0oqrtwrDs7p3w

It is said that this sequence of the manhwa is very long at 100 chapters, so maybe 1 or 2 cours of this...

For reference, the anime just finished adapting chapter 135 of the manhwa.

We've all been there Khun...

@[email protected]

So the setup for the Workshop Battle begins...

There's an odd thing where the team leaves on a ship, leaving Khun and Dan behind, then Wangnan wakes up, and they load on the ship for real to go to the test.

I'm flipping through the manhwa to try and figure out what went on there...

edit: Apparently it just happens like that in the manhwa. After Khun wakes up with the notification that they're invited to the Workshop Battle, we just see his team on the shuttle home exhausted or asleep, having passed the test offscreen.

I'm not sure how well Superintendent Matt Wayne's plan for keeping 15% of teachers out of the classroom will work...

Out of 2316 in SFUSD total...

I love articles like this about obscure and interesting places with local history!

80s anime-style music video.

The song is decent too!

San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced Sunday that she’s lending some of her own staff to help the city’s troubled public school district, whose top official narrowly avoided termination just hours earlier.

Hours after the San Francisco Unified School District’s governing board wrapped up a meeting in which it considered firing Superintendent Matt Wayne, accepted the mayor’s offer.

In a news release Sunday afternoon, Breed said she’s carving out $8.5 million for the School Stabilization Team to help SFUSD overcome its dysfunction.

Money for the mayor’s effort comes from a 2022 measure that unlocked city money to help SFUSD with so-called Student Success Funds for urgent needs. That’s on top of the $100 million the city already provides annually to its K-12 district.

The number of people sleeping outdoors dropped to under 3,000 in January, the lowest the city has recorded in a decade, according to a federal count.

And that figure has likely dropped even lower since Mayor London Breed — a Democrat in a difficult reelection fight this November — started ramping up enforcement of anti-camping laws in August following a U.S. Supreme Court decision.

Homelessness in no way has gone away, and in fact grew 7%, to 8,300 in January, according to the same federal count.

But the problem is now notably out of the public eye, raising the question of where people have gone and whether the change marks a turning point in a crisis long associated with San Francisco.

Hopefully Mayor Breed will show up this time...

Farrell's response regarding this incident doesn't make sense.

If he was purely interested in how long the issuance of the permits would take, why not call the DBI directly instead of Mayor Breed's office?

As Supervisor, Mark Farrell requested noticeably more "behested" payments from companies that had business before the city than other Supervisors.
