No, you definitely were NOT the target audience--but I was. That's why I enjoyed it so much... 😏

New Year's Eve, 5pm, Egyptian Theatre

BOOGIE DAYS. A BOOGIE NIGHTS prequel. Limited series. How did Jack get into the business? Where did he meet Maggie--and Little Bill? Eddie in middle school. Maurice's back story. Etc. One episode for each character?

Give Paul ALL the money to write and direct.

I'd watch the shit out of that show.

If you weren't charmed by the first episode, then it's probably not for you.

Any fans? It's my favorite new show of the season. Brilliantly written and performed.

Too young for ‘The Graduate’? Too old for John Hughes? Your cinematic touchstones might be as quirky as mine.

I rarely missed an episode of their shows over the years. If they both liked a film, I almost always did as well. I much preferred Rogers's opinions--and personality. Gene always struck me as being kind of a mean grump.

During the renovation process for The Egyptian Theatre, the American Cinematheque salvaged the theater’s original movie screen, and had it divided into pieces. They had each piece of the screen autographed by a top filmmaker or performer and placed in a custom lucite frame, intending to create meaningful keepsakes for film and history lovers alike.

Proceeds support the non-profit’s ongoing work of restoring 35mm classic film prints that are no longer in circulation, as well as films from filmmakers of color. Funds raised will also support the American Cinematheque’s archive of 40 years of filmmaker discussions for film students, cinephiles, and movie-lovers everywhere

"The area was designated as a national monument in 2014, but as Fodor's review notes, "the National Forest Service wasn’t given additional funds for the new portfolio addition in 2014. So in the absence of employees, volunteers have stepped up to try to tackle the trash."

And "[a] recent two-hour session saw more than 800 pounds of trash. To date, they’ve cleared more than 8,000 pounds of trash," it continues."

I didn't take a lot of pictures, but here's a short vid showing some of the restoration: https://youtu.be/xYCuATQ_2DY

I have a friend with FIVE CATS. I worry about her sometimes... Paula Poundstone has....12? 13? 14? I worry about her, too.

Here's a thread I can really use! I'm trying to start a new healthy habit, but I'm struggling a bit.

Having a birthday with a zero on the end of it this weekend. It's a bit of a mind fuck (as they have tended to be in the past.)

I'm a pretty healthy guy in general: still weigh what I did in college, been eating low-carb for several years... Been on a walking project where I decided to walk every street in my ginormous suburb while picking up trash as I go (it feeds my soul).

Which brings me to my struggle: I've recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis (fawk) which means, among other things, no longer putting off the weight-bearing exercises I've known for years are good for me (us). About a month ago I got some hand weights and have been doing a youtube workout thing (which my sister has been doing most of this year).

So what's the problem?

I hate it. It's such a grind. The walks? I look forward to those! The fresh air, the sunshine, the podcasts, the sense of accomplishment, exploring new neighborhoods, seeing the progress... The weights? Ugh.

So I'm wondering what I can or should do to "get my mind right". It's very possible that it's going to be a "just fucking do it" situation? Maybe when I start seeing (and feeling?) some progress it will become self-reinforcing. Maybe I need to put on a podcast and turn down the volume on the workout vids...

Any advice? For you regular weight-pushers, what's your 'secret'? What get's you thru your workouts?

TL; DR: I need to start lifting weights and I hate it. Looking for advice.

Looks interesting, but I wonder why my Pixel 7 is considered "incompatible"?

It's a challenge, indeed. There's a whole lot of headline scanning, to be honest.
