RAM clock is limited by the CPU memory controller, BIOS, the quality/precision of the motherboard traces, and the RAM itself.

You can always try higher clock speeds, but there's no guarantee it will work if you exceed the CPU/motherboard/RAM spec sheet.

Going too far will result in a failure to boot or other system instability / crashes, but unlikely to cause damage
