at this point, im wondering what happens comes the 50 series

will they only be able to sell 5080 (or hopefully 5070 with the 5080 going back to the 102 die) and not their top tier chip?

And the 60 series? only 6060s or w/e?

is it going to be that china will have only ever have max level of 4080s/4090s/4090detuned and that's it from the west?

any time you use ram more than 4 GB that is part of the 64 bit change

or having a file bigger than 4 GB, or a disk partition that is bigger than 32 GB

but yeah, because they quickly became the norm, not a whole lot of noise was made about them after the transition.

there are some niche users who don't really need all the performance.

if it can browse the net, run light apps (IE not trying to run something like PUBG mobile or other games like it), and have a great battery then it would have an audience.

that being said, hell, the galaxy S2 with cynogenmod lasted me well into kitkat and i even tried oreo on the thing (too slow by then), and the biggest thing was the battery and sd card slot that allowed me to really keep it for way beyond its time.

bandwidth, the thing has a fairly high spec screen, but only have displayport 1.4 which limits it to lower than what the screen itself can do in terms of resolution and refresh rate.

the only one that seems to try and address this is bigscreenvr but they got some drawbacks that needs to be addressed like the lack of BW to the thing for one, and the other is their sweaty material for the face mask thing.

I know people on reddit don't read but come one lol...

So there is two things to keep in mind. Its a way for intel to do a new round of publicity for 14th gen, but it also means that they will eat the cost on older gen stuff even if they may still be making 13th gen parts (or even 12th gen? 12100f for example).

I had a huge argument with people with nvidia about this, nvidia essentially did something similar or is planning to with the super series. The super series for 20 dropped and more or less replaced the 20 non supers at their original MRSP. This way, the older 20 series will still sell at similar prices (with a tiny hair cut), and there wasnt a supply of 10 series really to talk about.

But what happened with the 14th gen was that, the 13th gen got a hair cut, but 12th gen got a MAJOR discount, with the 12600K for example going for 153 dollars, for something that launched at 290 dollars that is a drastic cut, and even something similar in the 13400 non K isnt that cheap. Intel is definitely eating some of this cost themselves.

While Nvidia with the super is definitely NOT eating as much of that cost themselves, because even their older stuff that are on the market are selling well, and they thus isnt pushing out a 50 series GPU, but intel is pushing 14th gen because they really have a weak market position and eating the cost of their older stock is one way to help out their channel partners and get more of their goods into the hands of consumers. Both people who shop smart, and people who just buy OEM.

yeah, I mean, at this point, there is 2 things that I value

weight, and cooling.

weight will need advances in materials and maybe technology to really bring down farther, and a focus on trade offs.

the cooling bit is where things can get weird, maybe something weird like say a Peltier or something that cools both the module, and the user (with use of fans to blow cool air?), or that laptop non moving part cooler deal? and of course this also comes with the trade off of how much weight is there and how much power delivery would add on (like for a Peltier roflmao)

Pimax has been the tech / res leader and I think that is cool in its own way, but after owning my own first gen Oculus and playing with vive and index and etc. I think I personally value comfort way more at this point esp for the games I want to play with VR.

i dont know...

to me, most sim folks will want to play their game for long periods of time, and right now, none of the VR headsets are really good for long duration gaming.

even if its in a cockpit style deal and not like beat saber free standing full body type of deal.

the only one that seems to try and address this is bigscreenvr but they got some drawbacks that needs to be addressed like the lack of BW to the thing for one, and the other is their sweaty material for the face mask thing.

but yeah, I think for VR to be more than just a put it on, play for maybe an hour or two max type of deal (and you know how long a gaming session can be), they need to be comfortable, approach glasses like in terms of how hard to wear.

and Pimax and others like it aint it chief.
