Some nice wizard skating mixed with nature: a beautiful edit.

Nils Frahm, his albums are quite different from each other; here are some I like in no particular order:

Thanks for pointing me to KORDHELL!

Sounds nice, would you share a video of someone skating the style you strive for?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I happened to listen to Look Mum No Computer when I started learning inline skating. Today, I still enjoy listening to these two albums in particular:

Also, I really enjoyed the track in the beginning of The Wizard of Wall Street, Slowdance, and sometimes listened to it when skating; unfortunately, I don’t like any of the artist’s other songs.

When I need something more upbeat, I often go for Thick Boy Records.

Do you have or want any recommendations?

Nicht direkt ein Ohrwurm, ist mir aber hängen geblieben: Team Scheisse – Schmetterling

Currently I enjoy wizard skating the most: It’s full of technical challenges, but it also has a relatively low risk of injury.

I’d like to do more aggressive street stuff, but neither do I want to buy another pair of skates nor do I want to change frames frequently.

For now I’ll keep improving my wizard skills until I feel confident enough to try more park and street tricks.

These two videos convinced me to give wizard skating a try:

Previously I only skated quads, but I felt more comfortable on blades relatively quickly.

What kind of skating do you like? Street, park, speed, dance, …? Why do you enjoy it?

Also, would you like to try some other types of skating? Why? And what’s holding you back?

I’ll join you in your corner. 🫂

They really do look sleek, very nice!

What kind of surface do you usually skate on? Maybe your streets are more on the rougher side?
Also, the hardness of the wheels might not be optimal for durability.
When you decide to get new wheels you might check out this video first, it also talks about rotating the wheels (which, I suppose, is the same as twisting them?).

Thanks for the info, glad you found a nice setup! Never considered heating the boot itself, seems kinda risky.

It turned out that the Intuition liners do adapt to your feet after skating them for a while. I could even put the valcro butterflies back on for better responsiveness without introducing new hot spots.

How about the 2nd Skin liners? Did they require much breaking in? Or did they fit right away?

They do offer some strange technology. Even after reading most of their explanations I still don’t quite get how this kind of rockering is supposed to help but as I said, I have no clue about hockey. Anyway, fascinating stuff!

I created [email protected], a community for quad & inline skating. So far there was only a single post from someone other than me. 🥲

I’d also like to go much more niche with a community specifically for wizard skating. But considering the limited popularity of skating communities, there is no need to hurry creating that one.

Great videos for learning quad skating, specifically park skating.

I have had my Them 909s for a few months already when I started noticing pain on the side of my ankle when skating for about half an hour.

As there are so many people recommending Intuition, praising their liners for their good fit, I got their Premium model, hoping to eradicate that pain.

When I tried them I was promptly disappointed: It hurt even more. I removed that velcro wrap which made it better, but still not better than with the old liners.

I went online and learnt that you could heat mold them, which I tried, not going overboard with the temperature, though. It made it better, I guess?

But it still hurts, so I continued my research and found several people claiming that the liners need to be broken in for about ten to twenty hours. I hope they are right, I will not give up yet.

Update (3 days later)

Two days ago I skated them for three hours straight. At first it felt quite alright, especially my right foot felt fine, but there was some discomfort on my left one.

After a while that discomfort turned into pain, and after another while I somewhat got used to it. I got the feeling that I was breaking in my feet instead of the liners.

Unfortunately, my left foot still hurts when I put pressure on that one hot spot. I won’t skate until that spot has fully recovered, otherwise I couldn’t judge if liner becomes better anyway.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy …!

The edit is almost a year old but so worth rewatching, it has some really good vibes.

I encountered a super weird bug today: Just as a x100 battle was about to start, all sound was gone! No music, no effects. It returned only at the (other team’s ☹️) victory screen.

Did something similar ever happen to you?

I love seeing aggressive skating becoming more technical. (I’ll probably stay closer to the wizard end of the wizard-aggressive spectrum, though. 🧙‍♂️)

One of my favourite wizard edits with Joey from Mushroom Blading and Leon Basin.

The edit is full of smooth, creative and silly tricks; also there is no music, just the soothing sound of big wheels in solid metal frames sliding on nice concrete.

Some crazy good skating from the 80s: incredible levels of flexibility and control!
