There’s a Nilered video on youtube where he makes an extremely expensive cookie out of reference ingredients

Be forewarned that it’s extremely frustrating to watch. His general chemistry content is very interesting and well explained. But whenever he has to cook anything he becomes a complete doofus that cannot handle even the most basic of research. Like the man will research dozens of papers for hours and successfully make aerogel but then waste thousands of dollars in reference materials because he googled “cookie recipe” and just wrote down the first thing he found without reading anything about the process or technique

His coffee roasting video is similar and it makes me wonder if the food videos he makes are simply rage bait. He doesn’t post them often (frankly he doesn’t post often in general) so I genuinely wonder if he just really despises cooking and baking

But what if we go extinct and computers remain functional? will aliens that discover our planet be able to save their documents? Did you think about that??

It’s only universally recognized because of precedent. The true challenge is to create something that can be understood by someone that has no background with computers (or whatever)

Like the radiation ☢️ thing, danger ⚠️ , are supposed to be examples of this. Radiation more so because it’s not supposed to rely on language even

Now excuse me while I press the call button on my phone which is shaped like a landline handset from 30 years ago

AR glasses really don’t make sense until there’s a way to develop some kind of non surgical neural interface. Like if I can control them with my thoughts? Awesome. If I have to walk around the city talking to myself like a crazy person? It’s the introduction of the Bluetooth earpiece all over again

But then it’s like I absolutely do not want to give apple, google, meta, etc access to my brain

Is this finally gonna be the yakuza game that jumps the shark? I have loved them all despite the absolutely ridiculous storylines and turning the games into persona, but this one seems a bit wild

I’ll still buy it and 100% it. I learned mahjong for these games. I learned fucking koi koi for these games

Also the recent news of an actual irl yakuza getting busted for drug smuggling, arms dealing, and getting busted for selling enriched uranium (complete with a picture of him holding a genuine ass rocket launcher) makes me think that maybe the ridiculous stories of these games aren’t that crazy

You bring up a good point. I ultimately oversimplified my post to illustrate the point which upon reflection was probably not the best idea

Your presentation is not uncommon at all. It is totally a thing to fear the needle and not fear the pain. Ultimately the strategies remain the same (which is why I kind of glossed over this but it was still a bad idea to do so, my bad)

In addition to desensitization you can also try diversion in the short term. Create sensations in other areas of your body to divert your focus away from the needle. Put an ice pack on your thigh or something similar that’s not harmful but mildly uncomfortable to pull focus. Similarly you can just go with good old distractions if possible like watching a video while looking away. This isn’t the best strategy, especially long term because in some cases it can worsen the stimulus you’re anxious about, but in a pinch it can be helpful. And of course if your phobia is trauma related processing said trauma is helpful (although that in and of itself is often a desensitization process fyi)

It’d be really funny if it turned out the one person from Philly was him

This is basically my answer. I would wish my NAS was more full. I already have a pretty (imo) decent homelab with a lot of shit on it but in a “post internet” situation it would get old after a few months or maybe years depending on how fast I watched/read/listened

So tv/movies/music/books/comics and manga. Just all the media

Is the windows side up to date? Most likely culprit would be a db mismatch if one side or the other is on a different version. Similarly, do you by chance have either side running a beta release? If you have plex pass you potentially have access to these

Shameless moment to plug the idea that you could consider migrating to Jellyfin if you can’t solve the issue

On device isn’t always ideal. I don’t use immich because i don’t have a large photo library. But I do use komga. Nextcloud can sort and manage epub/pdf like komga but as poVoq said, the specialized solution is superior

This point is where on device app is not the ideal situation, for me at least. These apps exist. Tachiyomi and the resultant forks can import a local library. And frankly even a somewhat massive local library can fit on a cheap SD card

The point of the server is portability. With this I have portability across my devices. My library, reading status, metadata, etc is available on all devices. I can read a book on my ereader, close it, the status is synced. I can pick up from my laptop and the same thing occurs. I can pick up from my phone, download the book to my device, and keep reading while I’m away from home. If I wanted to I could open remote access to my server and avoid the need for downloading the books but that’s a whole thing

I don’t think it would make sense to run a server solely for this but it’s a service that doesn’t take much in terms of resources and I read a lot.

Oh jeez, definitely the latter.

Now I’m picturing a bunch of exasperated English teachers in Asia. They’re drinking after spending yet another class arguing with students who have been getting crowdsourced “advice” from a bunch of internet strangers that never got more than a ‘C’ in English class. It’s okay though, those internet strangers are a mix of people who are really into anime and/or fetishize Asian women. Super trustworthy bunch

In all seriousness the feedback is actually pretty good for the most part. When someone does give a shitty correction it’s usually called out. It’s been quite helpful in developing my Japanese as well (I’m one of the anime people). The biggest draw is that they have voice rooms where you can practice speaking with native speakers who are trying to learn your native language. That is extremely helpful and has improved my pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary far more than Anki or any textbook. Those are excellent resources, especially to get started, but they tend to be overly formal and ignore colloquial speech. I sound much more normal now.

I am sure it collects a crazy amount of data and it desperately tries to monetize every part of the app, but it’s been the one of the most helpful tools in learning outside of actual in person classes or social connections.
