I really get the feeling they are trying to rekindle some of the old with this season. I think they forgot how much they enjoyed it until they started rewatching during the podcast. I know not everyone is enjoying this season but it feels like a return to what made it great.

Exactly - as long as the instance isnt defederated, you should be able to post/comment/upvote/mod in communities that are outside of your home instance.

This is a very good perspective. I haven't been on Reddit since the blackout started. Probably would have gone back as well but the AMA comments were the final straw for me.

Or they took it offline to "hide" all the blacked out subreddits. Some had images about the third party apps as their only post, which was on the front page. By going offline it makes it seem like more of a technical issue rather than a protest.
I had to move Sync off the homepage of my phone to avoid the muscle memory of just clicking it mindlessly. I have caught myself once or twice wanting to type it into the URL.
