In the grand scheme, admitting fault is an admirable quality, yes. But I don't place much value in a research paper written by one class at Hamilton College 15 years ago. They might have been wrong then. Even if accurate then, their findings can be totally useless now. A lot can change in 15 years. If I cited a source to bolster my opinion that was 15 years old and based on the research of one college class on a topic that was as subjective as this, I hope you'd reject it as essentially useless.

If you acknowledge that Biden and the Democrats are responsible for the inflation last year, I don't know how you can so easily dismiss their role this year. Government policy and corporate actions don't operate independently of each other. They are interrelated. Corporations will charge as much as they can. We know that's what corporations will do. But they are constrained by what people can afford to pay, how much competing companies charge, etc.

Republicans are trying to score political points. Just like the Democrats do. Politicians of both parties are disingenuous all the time. That's the nature of political discourse, sadly.

Krugman’s track record doesn’t inspire confidence in the accuracy of his opinion. A year ago he admitted he was wrong about inflation.

There was a huge increase in the money supply during COVID. This was bound to impact inflation, as it has. Corporations can't just raise prices unless there is money to chase it. And there was. Here's the chart:

Biden and the Democratic leadership aren't solely responsible for this, but they aren't blame-free either.

Fear mongering is a political strategy for all types of politicians, not just conservatives.

The 2023 inflation numbers the article cites are still high. Just not as high as the previous year. I only have to go grocery shopping, go out to eat, and look at car prices to see there’s been plenty of inflation the last few years.

How’d you guess? :-)

It’s still being fleshed out and growing each day. I’d definitely support a general sport community there as well.

The hive mind.

Stealing home is one of my favorite things in baseball. It’s so audacious.

Fanaticus.social is here already but there’s definitely plenty of fragmentation overall. There’s probably more than I realize because I’m still figuring this place out.
