Ooh thanks for posting this! I have Inlet but hadn't listened to this release before. Loving it.

This album came out yesterday and it's already one of my favourite releases of this year.

There are a lot of reasons, but I think this article does a good job of listing the main criticisms: https://www.themarysue.com/the-autism-speaks-controversy-explained/

But in a nutshell:

  • They frame autism as a disease that needs curing
  • None of their board members are autistic
  • They spread fear and misinformation about autism
  • As a charity, embarrassingly little of their money goes to actually doing anything for autistic people

Oh yes, what a great album!

I've always thought "separate the art from the artist" should be a conversation, not a hard and fast rule. I've never heard White Freckles so I don't really have an opinion on this. But if the track is meaningful and brings beauty to people's lives, that's valid despite the artist being a piece of shit.

There are some artists where I feel the artist's behaviour does not outweigh the impact of their work on my life, for example Eric Clapton, but there are other artists where I feel their work stands up despite the artist's actions (Prince, David Bowie).

Thanks, this was a good read. I'm glad there's growing resistance to the fash/nazi scenes in black metal.

Wow that looks amazing!

I think about this song daily.

You know what's really cool? Crows share this knowledge, so there are crows out there who know you've done their crow friends a solid, and they'll look out for you. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/likeus/comments/ctaif0/some_amazing_details_about_the_little_girl_who/

This is one of my favourite albums. It's a bit of an odd one out in Novembre's discography: it's generally a bit softer, it features mostly clean vocals, and it generally sounds quite upbeat.

The standout track for me is Jules: it balances a melodic tenderness with an outro that makes you want to headbang and cry out with joy all at the same time. The whole album gives me a distinctly summery vibe: lazy days, the feeling of life stretching out ahead of you... all the possibilities it brings.

This album will always hold a special place for me.

This features one of my favourite misheard lyrics: Give me a light beer!.

It's really good to see this. As a long-time metalhead who will never tolerate fascism and bigotry in this scene or anywhere else, I'm always enthused to see others push back against that bullshit too.

"sexual deviancy" aaah okay, you've shown us who you are now.

I first came across this band thanks to an animated video Fursy Teyssier (Les Discrets, Amesoeurs) made for one of their songs. I've loved them ever since.
