Funnily enough, I've done pretty much that and simply got silence in response after several days of waking up to responses from them that were sent a few minutes after 09:00 UTC+3.

They love to call people genocide enablers, etc. (which I believe to be in conflict with lemmy.world's sitewide terms of service), but you're right - they dodge the question when people point out that they're advocating policies that harm the very population they claim to want to protect.

While I do think that Biden is complicit in a genocide, I also think Linkerbaan is a bad-faith actor who repeatedly violates not just community rules, but the rules of lemmy.world as a whole. I've written a longer comment about it elsewhere.

In the comment above, we see attempts to:

all straight out of the alt-right playbook.

They also accuse me of making things up despite plenty of examples of their doing exactly what I'm pointing out.

Their actions match strongly with those of a bad faith contributor who focuses on a single topic (the genocide in Palestine) on one particular side (anti-genocide) whilst advocating for actions that many (including myself) have pointed out would, in fact, lead to the opposite result. When others point this out, what they get in return isn't a nuanced discussion of these concerns, but rather personal attacks that I believe qualify as repeated violations of rule 1.1 of lemmy.world.

Defending someone who regularly makes personal attacks against leftists who point out that their suggested course of action moves us more quickly towards fascism isn't a great look...

Are you sure you actually want that? It'll pretty quickly become clear to them that someone who appears to be in a time zone pretty distant from the US is following the tactics of the alt-right playbook pretty much to the letter while using the genocide in Palestine to argue for internal US political actions that would result in a fascist being elected and making said genocide worse (not to mention likely starting up one or more genocides of their own).

Pointing out someone's patterns of behaviour on a thread they started about their own behaviour is not an ad hominem attack. It's an on-topic discussion of the point at hand.

Calling someone who agrees that an ongoing genocide is dreadful but believes the suggested course of action will make it worse a genocide enabler, on the other hand, is an ad hominem.

Dude. You do know that people can click on your account to fact check this, right?

Speaking of which... You never did respond to my comment where I laid out why your "vote third party" suggestion would, if implemented en masse, get Trump elected (which would be worse for Palestinians). Was it because I mentioned your probably UTC+3 time zone?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Making personal attacks against people who agree that it's a big deal but say that voting third party is counterproductive, though, is hammering a wedge issue from a narrow viewpoint.

Tho problem for me isn't viewing the genocide as bad. I am in full agreement there. The problem is the response to people who disagree about the most effective way to stop it.

This is the opposite of the time my friend posted a link to my personal site on Digg. It was running on a Pentium 1 with 128 MiB of RAM on a home internet connection.

Seriously. I'm running the same version of the same distro on machines manufactured over a decade apart. And even if my distro dropped support for my older machine in its next version, I have 10 years to find a replacement.

That headline falsely implies that it ever had control...
