If your goal is to extend wireless range, you just need to connect from LAN to LAN port and set the new one as Access Point.

probably can install dd-wrt but it is really old, only support wifi 802.11g 54Mbps.

iits probably either your router ip or your ISP dns. How did you set the google dns?

yes, set the old router as access point or if dont have that, disable the DHCP server.
