In my opinion one of the best TV show themes is for House
This song is wild. Haven't seen the video yet. Probably my favorite song from them though
So I dont have any sort of relationship or connection with R.E.M. I know the popular songs and I know I've listened to at least this album in full before but I probably didn't give it proper attention.
So I listened to it and tried to give it my full attention. I wouldn't say I've been converted to an R.E.M. fan but there are definitely things to like here. Two songs stood out to me the most so I'll highlight a few things I liked from those songs.
My favorite track is the opener of this album, Drive. It's just really great. I really like the darker sound and the non pop song structure. Obviously the Decemberists came after this but it kinda reminded me of them with the accordion. And then when the strings kick in halfway through it just has this epic sound.
The other song that stood out to me was Ignoreland. A bit more upbeat but there's still a hint of darkness in there especially with the politically natured lyrics. The double-time vocal buildup before the chorus into the belted "Ignooooreland!" is my favorite moment.
Those are my thoughts. If you want to convert to a full blown R.E.M. fan let me know what to check out that's similar to Drive.
I just saw her live this weekend! She was awesome. I love how glamorous and dramatic her performance was
I really like Space Invader. I'm excited to hear the rest of it this morning
Edit: Very good album. Space Invader and Smoke Detector are my initial favorites
Good song! They have more of a lo fi sound which I'm not usually into. But I really like this and the album they put out this year.
This was my thought too. To me they're just fine. Nothing has clicked for me. I don't ever have to desire to listen to them.
This is awesome. Love her voice and the energy. I'll keep an eye out for an album
I love the guitars from this group and I appreciate their unique sound but I just can't get into them. I thought maybe I just didn't like her vocals but then I heard her featured on this Sleaford Mods song.
Force 10 From Navarone - Sleaford Mods feat Florence Shaw
I love her voice and deadpan delivery on this song. I think it works really well with the drum machine and DIY dirty synth sound.
So maybe it's just the specific combination that Dry Cleaning put together that doesn't work for me.
Eh it's good but I'm not gonna make a separate thread about it. I didn't find it to be as impressive as her debut album. Probably because her debut was an unexpected surprise for a pop record from a 17 year old. With this one I already knew what she was capable of and I feel like she didn't push any "pop boundaries" that she didn't already push with her debut.
I know it's unlikely but I'm kinda hoping for a Scott Walker like career from her lol
I haven't listened yet but I was just reading that this is a soundtrack album for a documentary called Anonymous Club.
I think it's all instrumental. I'll check it out later. I'm pretty intrigued.
Edit: It's a nice and pretty sounding album. Very relaxing
Sorry I'm a few days late to this thread. I don't really consider myself a hiphophead. I'm more hip hop-curious but this album is one of the best hip hop albums I've heard.
For me the stand out track is Meat Grinder. His rhyme schemes throughout that song are just insane to me. So many references probably go over my head yet it still gives me chills. I can understand why some call him your favorite rapper's favorite rapper.
