Paranoia is the reason I self host. Clouds can kick you out or lose your data at any time.

It is, but for a different issue.

Every CA you trust can create certificates for every site. If you trust the e.g. NSA CA, they can create a certificate for gmail.com and put a MITM between you and gmail.

The EU is planning to force browsers to add their backdoor CA

  • Buy 2 20 TB disks and put them in an old PC you have lying around.
  • Create a ZFS mirror on that PC
  • transfer the data to that PC
  • create your ZFS array in your server and transfer the data back
  • use the PC with the 20 TB mirror as backup system
